A world so cruel, a world so ridiculous, a life so short and brutal, a world filled with so many malicious idiots, obviously cannot be all there is to existence. On the other hand, none of the weird and fantastic ideas proposed by human religions could be true either. Plato's shadows on the wall seem like a much more reasonable idea than anything else. Maybe we just don't understand and our tiny little human brains are either not programmed to understand or capable of holding that much information.

You should really start looking at the cup as half full. Such a pesimistic outlook will lead to depression.

Hey, hey, hey... don't forget the non-malicious idiots.

Just outta curiousity, why not? Not that I disagree entirely; I'm just curious.

<!--QuoteBegin-samsara15,

Humans, in fact, have rather large brains when compared to most other species.

Gorgo, I'm not being funny here, but why do put your posts before the quoted post?

Never thought about it. That's how I'd rather read things, I guess. Does it make a difference?

It's just that by conventional we have the quoted material and then the reply.

I do that with emails too. I don't like scrolling through a bunch of quoted stuff to get to the reply. I read the reply first, then if I need a refresher as to who said what, I read the quoted material. If something is too long, then it makes sense to intersperse.

I would argue that the likelihood of this world being an illusion is no greater than it being true. You can't know anything to exist for certain but the thoughts in your head.

But the more important question to draw from either position is-what the hell does it matter? Can you do anything about it, for certain?

Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.

On the other hand, why not let's try to enjoy ourselves as best we can? Why not be a hedonist, as long as we avoid hurting each other?

If violence and cruelty are your idea of magnificent and beautiful....you said it. I don't find them very appealing.

Jesus was a mushroom you need to eat the flesh of the magic mushroom and all will be revealed.
all they say about Jesus is true except the part about him being a man, see for yourself.
it is old info passed on to people all over the world in diffrent storys and cultures.
if you are that fed up with what you see, then change your perseption by eating some magic mushrooms.
its much better than suicide.
