| BANNED Location: Texas Posts: 731 | Isherwood, God did create the hammer. He told you to leave it alone. He warned you of how dangerous it was. He did not create in you the desire to do it. He created you with the freedom to choose to pick it up or leave it alone. The freedom to put it back down or hit yourself with it. Your desire is part of your choice. Adam and Eve had the freedom to choose of EVERY bush and tree in the Garden. It was just the ONE they were warned about. God gave them tons of right choices and the freedom to choose among them but ony ONE wrong choice. Now, we have tons of wrong choices but only ONE right one. Jesus Christ. He is the tree of life. We got ourselves into this mess. God gave us a way out. |

| A Celestial Monkey Location: In England Posts: 1,613 | Well you can't blame them, they were so stupid and gullible that... a talking snake ( ?!?!?!? ) convinced them to eat the apple because god lied (... he lied?) about what the apple would do to them. And why the hell create that tree there to begin with?! Giving us the choice is once thing. But creating a mental, sentient framework that is unable to directly confirm god's existence in it's mind due to GODS appearnt refusal to show himself, is in my opinion, stupid. By the way, I just realised a side inconsistency about that. Why is it a punishment to have a snake crawl on it's belly for the rest of it's days? :( And I'd strongly prefer if you answered my last post. You seem to be skipping answering some of my best posts on this and other threads. | What do you think? Location: Nashville, TN Posts: 24 | Honestly though.... call me athiest or whatever... I obviously can't speak for everybody, just myself.... I didn't decide to reject any god or rebel against it. I heard from others about this god. I honestly said, "hello?... anybody there?"... and (unless you want me to lie to you) I'd have to say I got no response. I can't really say that there was any kind of relationship there or even possible to be there. There was honestly nothing ...... If Zeus or the Hebrew God or Whoever is meeting me to judge me in the afterlife.... they would say "you were honestly looking for what was there ... and.... off to Hell you go (or whatever it's judgement would be)" I could either make up things, tell you lies, skirt the truth, etc.... or I can tell you what I honestly and truly know and think. And believe you me, it'd be a lot easier if I could honestly say otherwise (especially living in the Bible Belt ) |

I'm amazed by this way of thinking. If you go looking for something nebulous hoping to find it, you'll eventually convince yourself you have. This is a function of perception and mindset. If you believe all people are evil, you'll begin to be able to only see the evil people do and thus convince yourself that they are all evil. If you want to believe in a designed universe, your perceptions will confirm your beliefs. You see what you want to see. You perceive the world based on your expectations and bias. If you can truly "become as a little child" and perceive the wonder and beauty of the world without expectations and predisposition, you'll be able to better see what is there instead of what you want to be there. | Athelib Posts: 224 | I used to be a Christian (Forced into it by the way) I can tell from an outside perspective that it was childish for me to think these Fairytales where real. I feel sorry for you Dave. You've put your head in a box and won't come out. Hard to enjoy life like that, huh? Saddest part about being an Atheist, when we're dead we can't say "I told you so".
