| Pragmatist | I have been thinking about what it means to be an adult in every day life in todays society....and was really having a bit of trouble with it. I mean theres always the whole reponsibility for you own actions blah blah blah but I'm sure theres quite a bit more to it than that. I was just wanting some other viewpoints on it I guess. I am 30 now and have never really put much time and effort into it is all, not too mention the fact that I don't think I'm much good at it. Anyway it would be good to hear any views/stories you have on either how you personally grew up or what you think its all about. :) I wouldn't recommend sex, drugs and insanity for everyone, but its always worked for me. Never think that war, no matter how necessary, nor how justified, is not a crime." (Ernest Hemingway) |

| The first big important thing was realizing that life was not supposed to be easy. It's not supposed to be anything other than what it is. The rest I'll reveal in my upcoming bestseller. |

| Funny, for me since I've grown up, I lamented the loss of my youth, although I would not choose to go back. Adulthood for me hit me squarely in the face when my son was born. I realized that I could no longer live just for myself. Growing up meant choosing to practice self sacrifice, giving up my desires to benifit others. It also meant that I had to think harder, work harder, sleep less & party less. Adulthood required that I be aware of my actions and strive to become admirable to my peers. It insisted that I become a productive part of society, rather that a parisite upon society. Adulthood opened up my worldview to encompass a wider vision of the future and a burden of my responsibilities to that future. It asks for honour in action and loyality in relation. It is the sorrow of burden and the joy of freedom. Growing up, for me, became a struggle to obtain a state maturity, even when I felt to be infantile; to discover the wisdom buried in my knowledge. It has been a journey to obtain what so many fail to achieve in a lifetime, maturity in mind and action. I believe that most of us are always growing up, not all of us have reached adulthood. If your 20 and a Liberal, you can be forgiven for not yet thinking; If your 40 and a Liberal, you can't be forgiven for failing to ever think. |
