The people whom I am about to mention are not really "fair-weather" in the little sense, but that is the idea which they conjure up in my head: a fair-weather sportsfan.

These people are the priests, cardinals, popes, bishops, and blah blah blah's of "the" church. Remember that little creation story of Genesis? It was taken literally for centuries and centuries. Id est, this was how man believed that he truly came to be--from the molding from clay to the seven days to the extracted rib and all.

Then when some really bright scholars began using their noggins to come up with an acceptable explanation for organisms and life itself, and thus gave birth to evolution as a fairly acceptable theory, the church, as is common, falls back on years and decades and centuries of teaching.

"Oh, it was simply intended to be an allegory." Oh, really, Father? Where was that opinion back in 853 C.E. when everyone believed themselves to be descendants of clay? If you are such an omniscient and omnipotent institution as the church, you cannot turn centuries of dogma around like a bicycle and respect to retain credibility.

Yet, it has. It has and more. If anything the church has been growing stronger since it first began accepting evolution.

Why is this? Since when was a mess-up like this. made by authority figures who essentially govern their followers' lives. acceptable? It and other doubling-backs by the church like it have not and will not be acceptable to myself.

If you are a continuing believer in the church (not Christ), why? Does this factor of human error and weakness not bother you?
