It is easier for Heaven and Earth to pass away than for the smallest part of the letter of the law to become invalid." (Luke 16:17 NAB)
Good point. However, I found something interesting about this. Let's kick some Matt:
Quote:
(Matt 5:17) Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.
(Matt 5:18) For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
(Matt 5:19)Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
(Matt 5:20) For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Ok, so check it out.

Follow Christ and the old laws: After death you're in heaven, and you're living it up like Wayne Newton.
Follow Christ but don't follow the law to a "T": You're still in heaven, but you don't get the same props.
Don't follow Christ and do whatever: No heaven.

So you're right, Z. You really should follow all those old laws. But if you don't you still get into heaven.

Anyway, John 16:17 only seems to reinforce my claim that the ladies shouldn't preach.

Hey, at least it'll be interesting up there with all the female ministers and their supporters you can talk to.

You know, I never considered this passage from the bible before. Is there an actual hierarchy in heaven?

WTF?

Somehow, I don't think Paul would agree with that.

Yeah, he was a bit more equal opportunist.

It was a marketing ploy, IMO.

Among the less zealot Christians I think the above is accepted as the apostle's attitudes but not necessarily Jesus'. The average human has to be able to find some solace in their faith, yet they know that strict literalism is an extreme they can't abide. So they take a middle ground. Sometimes the apostles are inerrant, other times they didn't seem to know what was going on. A rather human failing.

This is symptomatic of the problem of belief in ancient scripture and religious worldviews as the 'way', and more specifically the 'one and only way'. Because these ancient worldviews were writen for a time, culture and place long past, they are often selectively or at times wholey justified. The result is many churches, conflict, seperation and justification, and often violence.
