| Paladin Location: Narnia Posts: 4,277 | The Blasphemy Challenge I dunno if anyone's heard about this yet: The Blasphemy Challenge The gist is that these anti-theists are out there bribing the young and gullible with an anti-theist propaganda movie in order to get them to willingly damn themselves by blaspheming the Holy Spirit. So. What do you think, Volconvo? Will those who so vehemently spoke out against the atrocities of Jesus Camp (incidentally, I felt the same), be so quick to condemn the same tactics when anti-theists are doing it? Is the idea of being bribed with paradise even nearly as insidious as the idea of being bribed with a propaganda flick? Is not such a proclamation, in fact, not only playing by Christian rules, but a statement of faith in and of itself? What is to be gained by the anti-theists by doing stuff like this? Let the hypocrisy begin. Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame. -- Song 8:6 |

I find it hilarious. I mean really ... who're they trying to convince that theres no God? Others .. or themselves? The boys you left, are men you didn't raise. |

Yeah, and it's hilarious how people see movies about Rocky, Captain Kirk, the Grinch that stole Christmas, and Darth Vader There are Websites about Mork from Ork, and hundreds of books about Star Trek, Star Wars, and Sherlock Holms, to name just a few of the MILLIONS of FICTIONAL CHARACTERS that rate the same attention. They must be trying to convince us those charactors are real as well eh? As soon as someone ANYONE shows one small tiny shred of testable PROVABLE evidence of a "creator of the universe", I'll take God seriously. Until then, any God that says "thou shalt not KILL" and then wipes out all life on the planet (except one guy and his family) is fictional in my book. BTW, did Noah have to collect extra animals to feed the carnivors? Big Jr is watching you! | |

Are you serious? This is satire, right? I hope? Religion KILLS. Religion is anti-progressive to society. Religion is INTOLERANT. If your going to be having events, books written, movies made, and wars driven by YOUR freaking beliefs, have the HUMAN decency to let OUR beliefs be expressed in a little video. | Absolutely Superb Posts: 778 | This is not comparable to Jesus Camp in any way whatsoever. In Jesus Camp, we saw an example of a group of people being indoctrinated into thier belief by emotional indoctrination and communal acceptance. Here, we see an example of people merely stating they came about to the same ideas, albeit in a tactless manner. We don't see any political motivations, any concrete attempts to form an anti-Christian lobby because this is "One nation without God", we don't see any of them preaching atheism on the streets, or trying to introduce atheism into church discussions because priests need to "teach the debate"... Most of all, we do not see attempts from atheists to hold all of the political power our nation possesses, nor to take legal action against Christians as individuals in terms of rights and legal status. From the religious right, a surprising majority has expressed such an opinion in surveys and studies held in the last 40 years. This makes them more of a potentially harmful group to our democracy than the atheists will ever be. So, give me a break. I'd rather speak out against those that want to threaten my owns rights than someone who merely posted an angry video on the internet and made some random Christians on the internet yell "hypocrasy!" There really isn't a  big enough for this topic. Sorry, but the comparison really is laughable on many, many levels. |

| Paladin Location: Narnia Posts: 4,277 | Well, Zink, at least YOU are on topic. I wasn't really referring to the political element. I was talking about campaigning to the young (and sometimes the very young) to make life changing theological decisions. They are appealing to people that may not know better and are trying to get them to make what they (even) tout as an irreversible decision. The Jesus Camp thread over and over disparaged the manipulation of the young. And that's the comparison I'm making. And your quote is entirely inappropriate. Let's keep it civil. Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame. -- Song 8:6 | |

And the point is not the expression of beliefs. Even if I cared about atheists expressing their beliefs (which I really, really don't), there wouldn't be much that I could do about it. But this goes beyond the simple expression of beliefs. It is something that in the worst could be destroying the spiritual lives of children and in the very mildest light is at least extremely tacky. One doesn't have to do something like this in order to express a disbelief in God.
