Maybe we are the cancer in the Universe's bloodstream?

With the ideas of growth, energy, etc already mentioned, I do find the hypothesis of the universe being living interesting.
LOL maybe we are!

I agree with you, and many others. I wanted to thank you guys for some incredibly interesting responses!! I am so fascinated by the subject, and although I have not actually decided for myself if I believe the universe is or is not alive, I really enjoy hearing new perspectives on the matter.

God=I & Universe = my body!!!!!

I won't consider US as cancer but, healthy tissues of the universe getting generated and degenerated while; universe remaining eternally the same. This is very much analogous with any individual living being e.g. me myself. The only difference is that I mortal whuile the universe is immortal.

Quite sometime back, once I tried to equate universe with magnified human self and existence of consciousness in the whole universe as God equivalent to I in my body.:)

The universe is not immortal, nor eternal. The time scale is just vastly different. Stars are born, stars and galaxies die.

I do tend to agree that the universe as a whole is alive in varying degrees. The little pockets abounding with life (such as this planet - and probabilities predict others) to the building blocks for life that are just floating around in the void of space. How they got there is another question entirely.

All this sounds Greek to me.
