I was imitating the Muslim convention. But I've already forgotten what it stands for. Certainly not similar to whatever genius says.

Karen Armstrong is not an "objective non-Muslim source"

"and don't forget, I actually used an objective non-Muslim source to describe the event."

She has positioned herself as an apologist for Muhammad and in that position she is highly vulnerable to historical truth and moral scrutiny. Most non-Muslim scholars who have studied the historical situation at the time of Muhammad don't agree with her conclusions. Certainly there is nothing in Islamic teachings or history to validate it as a "religion of peace". Muhammad was competing with Meccan pagans and Jews for territorial control, especially of the yearly money flow at Mecca from religious festivals, so when both Meccans and Jews rejected his new religion, he went to war with them and he won, they lost, and Arabia became Muslim.

I mean that I did not intend it to be an expression of respect or reverence.

That's kinda disrespectful, because we don't say stuff about their prophets (even though almost all of them are the same) or disrespect them...

I don't think Jesus was ever considered a Jewish Rabbi. He was full rebellion against the Rabbis and their assumed special privilege, and wealth.

Athena is right

Modern Christians seem to have forgotten that Jesus Christ was very much opposed to Pharaisic Judaism, the basis for modern rabbinical Judaism. The word "rabbi" means " my Master", and Jesus preached that no one on earth should be called such for One is our Master, God.

The other criticism of Pharaisic Judaism Jesus preached was their reinforcement of Jewish separation from Gentiles using Jewish religious cult exclusiveness make the division. For Jesus, a "house divided cannot stand" and he seems opposed to Jewish exclusivity although we may never know for sure as the authentic voice of Jesus is lost to history.

I myself have been lead to believe that Jesus' animosity towards Pharaisic Judaism goes much deeper--getting into a division of which god is truly God, the Israelite tribal god Yahweh or the Canaanite God Most High, EL Elyon.

he was in rebelllion against the priests and high layman. a rabbi is anyone who is learned in the talmud and preachs about it. jesus was definetly a rabbi, though not a very orthodox one.

He objected to the fact that they believed themselves to have somehow obtained salvation through their own holiness. They believed that if they were just good enough, they could force God to let them in. He knew that they were sinful just like everyone else, and that the fact that their sins earned them along with the rest of humanity the same penalty meant that they were no better. He was also angered that, by their feelings of superiority, they were causing the truly broken and loving to feel as if it was futile to try to live for God. So because of their arrogance and because they were destroying the souls of everyone else, He was very displeased with them.

Jesus is consistently anti-Pharisee in his teachings in the New Testament. Many of his teachings deliberately stand Pharaisic Jewish cult observances on their head. Even in the Talmudic accounts of Yeishu ben Pantera, the same hostility towards rabbis can be seen.

I do not think Jesus would consider himself a rabbi when his whole theology was opposed to elevating anyone on earth over God's direct authority. No go-betweens, no priests, no rabbis. Jesus has become the living Temple through which Jews along with everyone else are to reach the Father.

in jewish culture any teacher of the law is a Rabbi. jesus was not a temple preist or of the lay clergy, but he was a rabbi none the less.

ps for a guy who beleived in no go betweens, he sure seemed to make one of himself. just like khoemini made himself the gudie for shi'ites.

SAW is the abbreviation of an Arabic word. You can also use it's english equivalent, which is PBUH (Peace Be Upon Him).

Saying the words doesn't make it so. Jesus was anti-Pharisees, anti-rabbis, so your attempt to discount that is only your revising Jesus' beliefs and acts to fit your theory.

If someone from a cult denounces the cult, are they still a member of that cult? Jesus denounced the Pharaisic cult system and therefore he is not a Pharisee or a rabbi but a teacher, preacher, and prophet of God. Rabbis are our "masters", something Jesus said wasn't true.

Actually, it is fairly common for someone who is in a cult to denounce cults. Just FYI.

Is this any different than what Joshua is reported to have done at Jericho?

Quote:
When the trumpets sounded, the people shouted, and at the sound of the trumpet, when the people gave a loud shout, the wall collapsed; so every man charged straight in, and they took the city. 21 They devoted the city to the LORD and destroyed with the sword every living thing in it—men and women, young and old, cattle, sheep and donkeys.

@ phoenix, before you pass irrational judgements on Muslims, don't forget that Crusaders killed 40000 (if not more) innocent people for no reason what so ever. But in that Battle of Trench, Muslims were in a DO OR DIE situation. You need to understand the context...
