The weird thing about the topic of this thread is that some people must think that atheists are a separate breed of human, that our common disbelief in gods somehow makes us all similar. The premise that the country would somehow be radically different if it lived up to the Constitution and didn't have a preferred state religion is silly. Atheists are people, and people react to positions of power that have nothing to do with their theology, sexuality or hair color. If this country is still run by greedy, ambitious, lying, cheating unscrupulous politicians 100 years from now, it won't matter if they're atheists, gays or all women. They'll still be corrupt politicians. And I'll gladly denounce a corrupt atheist politician as quickly as I would a Christian or Muslim one. The Forum Rules Radical Atheist Heathen Queer Let's agree to respect each others views, no matter how wrong yours may be. (Ashleigh Brilliant) |

Even then, ya know, how does determining all this stuff help the homeless find jobs, stop the inhumane treatment of coal workers in china, etc? It's all a distraction that diverts our attention away from the real problems in the world. It's good stuff to know though (for the fanatics out there who think space exploration will be humanity's salvation when the earth rots, not to offend them or anything). Sin is salvation. Without "sin" there wouldn't be a concept for "purity" and without a concept of "purity" one wouldn't be able to enter "heaven." Last edited by atheist; Mar 12, 2007 at 05:32 am. | Looking for the exit Posts: 111 | Well that depends, does the creator necessarily exist and create unnecessary things or is the creator unnecessary, leading to infinite regress unless we come to a creator that unnecessarily exists. Thats the thing, we could never know why the universe exists. So some people aren't going to accept a subsistent being causing us to exist. Its like creating a bio-dome and putting living things in it. The bio-dome would have no windows, so the living things would never ever know why they are there. Money can buy what you don't have. |
