| Secular meaning is defined by met potential First off, what is meaning? Meaning is a goal central to one's life, a definer of what they wish thier ethics and being to reflect. Keeping this in mind, when one bases thier meaning on the realisation of a possiblity that is indeed something that logically can be realised in this universe, thier "meaning" is indeed objective in the sense that, if it is met in the future, it's consequence has become a part of actual reality. Meaning, thus, is defined by potentiality. Potentiality itself gives meaning the (ha ha)potential to become objective.
This means, in an secular world, one can indeed find meaning, but that meaning is still relative to the person. However, the meaning is only nonexistant if it's goal is not realised. Thus, the only fufilled atheist is an atheist that realised his goals.
Of course, this means in a secular world meaning then could indeed be selfish and nonabsolute, but this also indicates that in a secular universe, meaning is not nonexistant as long as it has humans(and other forms of life?) trying to realise certain potentials. The consequences of the meanings and the actions they demand themselves have the potential(see the pattern here?) to echo throughout history if properly made and realised. Indeed- if the meaning was a good one and the definer of such a meaning was properly up to task and motivated, it was not made in vain.
So: any criticisms, childish flames, corrections you'd like to make? |
