What one would/should ask for?

Many people feel that they are equal to suffering, that they would take on the hurts of others, that they would gladly die, but when actually faced with that kind of situation, they do no do it gracefully. Taking on the pain for others soon becomes "why me". And yet, we often do come through it. But not willingly. It is a strange paradox.

Not so strange.

I thought I was capable of doing so, and when I was actually injured because I was trying to protect someone, I realized, in the days that followed, that I would have been giving up more in my life than I would have saved in his.

Shallow? Maybe.

Reassigning of priorities? Definitely.

I simply came to accept that there are many, many people that I don't think are worth dying for.

I would like to summerise all what last few posters want to say as follows:

Desire is the root cause of any action. Desires are of infinite qualities. Mind wins over intellect producing actions which as per set social regulations looks not moral deeds. But power of mind is so strong at times even wrong actions are being performed. Then the result of actions decides whether the desires are fulfilled or not. If results come out to be as per one's expectations then naturally peace would prevail and on the other hand if results are contarary to one's expectations dis-appointment prevails. Nature has kept the effect of time on human mind in such a way that whether satisfaction or dis-satisfaction, it wannes off gradually with passage of time.

Now, when we have an individual in physical form before us asking us to tell one best wish. I think we should ask something which has lasting satisfaction effect on us eternally, independant of time, which I feel is perfect peace of mind and satifaction under even non-conducieve situation.

I have noticed your wish of ability to know your physical place, importance and ability in the society and world. Alright, you are given that boon! So you are able to know all about yourself such as present position, future goals in life and abilities to achieve those goals. Your present and future planning would be perfect. Your chances of failures are minimum. Towards end of life, you would just be a satisfied person.

Samething, I am asking from my diety to keep me satisfied with full peace of mind under any good or bad situation just in one sentence. I am that for life after death if at all it exists.

It is definitely a great thing that your wishes are related to not only your own selves but for the whole community. It is a pious wish but if this wish is analysed minutely, you would understand that it is your desire that something happening bad to masses should not happen since you have kind hearts which can not tolerate that. Now if your diety is giving you this boon that full society should not suffer and remain peaceful and in communal harmony; you would get peace of mind. But, soceity in the form of individuals is governed by their own luck and fate. Therefore, I think your diety would not be able to give you boon to make whole community peaceful as it is not in its fate. But definitely it can provide you peace of mind even under the conditions society is left to its due fate.

Your wish of knowing other's mind if granted too would amount to asking for a peace of your mind to fulfill your desire but is not much of importance as compared to eternal peace of mind and satisfaction.

I chewing up your answer "Nothing" to understand it fully. Firstly I may add to my OP if not already said that your anwer has to be something but not nothing.

Now if you are stub-born, hot headed, like me and determined not to ask anything that is very clear to me that you are already full of satisfaction and peaceful person.

Just in physical form when my own spiritual guide (My father) asked me while I had just finished my B.Sc. final exam, to ask what I wanted as he could give anythig. I thought for a second that whatever I would ask it would finish sooner or later, so could not decide what to ask! hough, I did not answer "Nothing" but said "I do not know". All that happened one day somewhere May, 1970. Same night I saw him in dream giving me a white tall horse which I rode and went higher and higher over vallies and hills. When I narrated this dream to my father next morning, he said you were not knowing what you wanted so he had given me "White Horse" which means pure and satisfied (White) and horse (mind).:)

I very much agree with you that wishing peace for whole world than for only yourself is pious idea. But you have to realize that peace is felt by mind. You can have control on your mind only. How can you have control over everyboy's mind? Different people think differently, perform all sort of actions based on their good and bad desires. Then, depending upon the nature of their actions they have to listen to music as their reactions. How can boon giver go against the obvious action/reaction affect? That is why I point out one's peace of mind is possible to attain either through boon or through own power of mind and not for whole world!!!!

I agree with you. Personally, I do not believe in such dieties. I don't think sacrificing animals or ourselves, works any magic.

Have you seen the original Star Trek shows? some kind of an energy machine goes wrong and Spock sacrifices his life to save everyone else's.
Or in times of war, men have thrown their own body over handgarnades to save the lives of peers. Or in chimp troops, the alpha male will attack the threatening predetor, and those closest to him will join in, all risking their lives to save others. This complusion to sacrifice ourselves to save others, comes in our genes. Like empathy, some are more liking to save others and some will safe themselves at all cost. But it is all in our genes.
