A person is nothing but an opinionated fool without education. The forefathers of the US had a classical education, and that means they were literate in Greek and Roman classics. This education is essential to democracy, and it sure is essential to being a Humanist. The stupid religious debates, and willingness to follow leaders like Bush into wars, is the result of the lack of education in the Humanities. Dawn falls Eve. Enlightenment falls the darkness. |

| Altruism Assassin Location: Massachusetts Posts: 5,361 | Why does reading greek and roman classics, both of whom had democratic systems very different then ours, help us with democracy? I'm sure that some of those in the Bush administration are relatively well educated in the classics, considereing the universities they went to, but they led us into war anyway.
