I'm not sure to whom you are responding. In my view, it would depend on what you mean by "believe in the bible." Of course, what it teaches is a bit contradictory - kill/love and the like. As for Jesus, there actually isn't any historical support that he existed.
I was responding to Fonceai, and I agree with you on the historicity of Jesus.

Wow!!!! You believe in Jesus, but don't believe in the bible or what it teaches? Where is this rationalization coming from?
From rational thinking.
Since the bible is all we have to go on for anything "Jesus" it would seem there is no rational thinking going on here. To believe in Jesus's teachings, you have to use the bible as its source of teachings. Yet he doesn't believe the bible.

Right. Kill them! And this is an example of the loving god of christianity.
An example of the violence that results from following the teaching of the Bible. So I am forbidden to cook my meal on the sabbath? Yet another example of the loving god of the christians.
You're reaching to the chior, I'm an atheist and do not believe in any of this. I'm just saying what the bible does in response to Fonc's OP. As to cooking on the sabbath, correct, that wasn't allowed but food FOR the sabbath day was prepared a day in advance. It says that somewhere in the bible too.

I'm sure you're not. It is enough to condemn others on little understood verses from scripture.
Right. Kill them. We can just have more. Our loving god demands it. Of course, you're going to have a tough time explaining to the DA.
More preaching to the chior LOL....

So you are saying that the old testament and its laws are meaningless and need not be given any heed because of Jesus?
Thats not what I'm saying. I'm explaining how christians will explain this. They will say that Christians are to obey all moral laws of the OT and NT, they are not however required to follow the civil laws (the ones that describe what to do when someone breaks a moral law). Jesus replaces the civil laws with his sacrifice.

They are something that christians try to "get around."
Thats what the Jews might say.

You're serious? Have you ever heard of laws against murder? So murder is OK with you because it is biblical?
You are putting words into my mouth. Of course murder ISN"T OK with me, it wasn't OK with the people of the OT and it wasn't OK with the NT. It's never been "ok". What I was trying to say (unsucessfully) was that the Moral law = Do Not Murder, the civil law = Kill the murderer if found guilty. Moral Law = Do Not Steal, civil law = cut off theifs hand. See the difference? Its the civil laws of the OT that christians aren't required to follow.

Not even that. My bet is that you don't even know the 10 Commandments as the Bible states them. At least I hope you don't seethe a kid in its mother's milk.
Which version? Exodus, Deuteronomy or Quran? Jewish, Protestant, Catholic or Islamic version? Again, my original post was directed at Fonc and the confusion I see in his OP. I don't believe any of this stuff. I believe that the basic laws of humanity dictate what has been given credit too in the OT. They existed long before the bible stories came about. They aren't new, relatively speaking.

Cite the book, chapter and verse of the 10 commandments. Be aware that the Bible specifically mentions the 10 commandments, and if your cite doesn't include that, then you aren't citing the 10 commandments.[/quote] Exodus 20:2-17, Deuteronomy 5:6-21. The bible as a whole mentions them numorous times and even Jesus mentions them. You can read more here
