An animal has no use for absolutes, it does not know that life began, or that life will end. It knows not good or evil, right or wrong, ethical, or moral. We invented all of these concepts and even we do not know what they mean. Given this evidence, the purpose of life is to invent an imaginary meaning and get hung up on it. I have invented mine, go get your own. :D |

Therefore our purpose is to try to fill unfilled environmental niches. Expand our numbers and try to live longer to gain the knowledge to fulfill our purpose better. To put it bluntly to expand, conquer and live longer. I wouldn't recommend sex, drugs and insanity for everyone, but its always worked for me. Did I at any point in my post state that this is the meaning of everybody's life? Did I say that this applies to everybody? Did I say that you should agree with me? You quoted it yourself... I said... "I exist to..." note the letter I beginning that sentance... No. All I said is that I think the meaning of life BEGINS in the same place. The urge to reproduce leads to many of our actions, even if one can't actually produce viable young. Hitler did what he believed was best for the survival of the species. He felt that Jews, blacks and cripples were ruining the world for what he believed was the master race. Sterile couples may first try to have children and then try to adopt. If they can't do their part directly they likely find another way. Perhaps they'll donate to charity or for less than the cost of a cup of coffee they can "adopt" a malnourished child overseas. The fact that they WANTED or TRIED to have children is all it takes. Even a person that doesn't want to have children at all still has a reason to live that is very likely to be linked to the survival of our species. They go to work, help the human world go round, help a sibling move, take care of a sick grandparent, loan a friend some cash, do a single person a single favor. The only lives that I would call meaningless are those that are dedicated to destroying all human life. As far as I know, there aren't any. So, I could say that the meaning of life is the survival of the species. Whether or not the individual has the ability or the urge to actually CREATE life has no bearing on this. Creating new life is only the most direct and tangible way to do it. When I read, "meaning of life," I infer, "reason to live." I have my own particular reasons to stay alive. You have yours. Hitler had his. If you don't like mine that's fine but don't be a dick about it and please think before you respond.
