The Historical Construction of The Bible

A fairly concise description of the various alterations the Bible has undergone over the centuries. Long read, but a goodie! Once you've reached the bottom, there will be a link to the next section. A very informative read. I can't say a whole lot about the legitimacy of it all. Undoubtedly, I will be spending a certain amount of time attempting to confirm what is written in this document by matching it up with other sources. But for now, I find it to be very interesting.

Alterations within the Old Testament

Oooh I have a good theory for origin of the Torah...

A group of wise men talked of the historical events that happened within their time-frame. They believed that there was only one god (Abraham especially) They were surrounded by a crappy world and they didn't like it.

They then established morals and made up a bunch of fake stories because people would believe them. These wise men soon spread the religion through teaching it to people. They thought it would be a lot better world with these morals that they knew they thought they were right on.

But unfortunately, as time progressed...it was not so...and after a while it turns out many people had done this. Different religions had emerged and due to human nature and the dislike of difference; hate was inevitable and it happened.

The probability of these people actually parting the red sea is probably extremely low, as is bread raining from the sky. The burning bush was probably caused by a wildfire (hey egypt is really hot!).

So that's it...that's my theory tell me how you like it?

Scholars think that the original Torah was lost when king Nebuchadnezzar conquered Jerusalem.

Is that Ismalic schollars (using hadith) or Western schollars (using their brains)?

If we want to understand the writing of the any holy book, we need to look back to when they were written. The Hebrews carry Sumerian and Egyptian beliefs. Here are some Sumerian sources. Also Amenhotep is responsible for the Eygptians worshipping one God before the existence of Hebrews. When he died, his holy city was destroyed, because old preist and worsphippers of many Gods hated him and his one God. The people from his holy city appear to have ended up in the old Sumerian city of Ur, where Abraham begins his trek back towards Eygpt. Hebrews sort of camp out and did a trade business between the areas of high population in a place now known as Israel. This later evolves into a religion with more eastern elements and especially Prussian mysticism- Christianity. Both religions moving into Arab territory and evolving again into Islam.

Why doesn't the article's author, provide any sources whatsoever? Is he an authority on the subject? Who is the author? How can you use as a source, an article that has an anonymous author and uses no independent sources or scholars? What is the difference between this and a wiki article? At least a wiki article has sources at the end, so it would at least have that much more credibility, no?

The Egyptian God Amun dominated the religious landscape of Egypt during the New Kingdom, and all other Gods were viewed as aspects of Amun, by his adherents. That's fairly close to monotheism.

That was both before and after Akhnaten.

The priests of Amun eventually overthrew the pharoahs, leading to the Third Intermediate Period of Egyptian history, and established a theocracy, but Egypt was declining by then, and split up even further.

Some people say the ending of prayers "Amen", came from Amun.
