I'm really curious where there is proof of this from CNN or MSNBC or some kind of contemporary news source.

I can't find anything.

I think the reason most MSM media tend to not do stories which are critical of Catholics (with the exception of pedofile priest scandal, which could hardly not be reported) because of the Catholic Anti- Defamation League's power.You rarely hear internal struggles within other faiths on MSM either.

According to that link, the Pope basically said that Catholics don't need to legistlate on behalf of gays, but they can still be tolerant.
