| Igneous Magma Posts: 180 | The year is 2050 and only one religion remains. The horrible truth dawns on the citizens of the world - they realise that they are running out of Gods. How long has the last one got left? How could this happen at all? (perhaps you can answer those questions). -Should we make up some more Gods to meet demand? -Who should do this, the church or government? Here is how I think things went wrong: Thousands of years ago ancient man had a rich choice of religion. There were hundreds of Gods plus thousands of deities and millions of spirits to chose from. There is little doubt that ancient man would have shopped around for the best God to suit him. Trying out a little moon godess one week and some rain god the next to find that optimum balance and peace of mind. But as people became more selfish they started promoting their own God and criticizing other Gods. This is similar to the way that "popular" music has pushed out many great bands. The result was a decrease in the choice available to the religious consumer. Hundreds of years later the jesus thing happened and missionaries (which are comparible to the record companies) made sure the choice became even less. Nowadays there are really only 4 serious Gods to pick. The Jewish God, the Christian God, the Muslim God and the Hindu God. The problem is that the lack of choice means that lots of people aren't really into what is available and that is the real reason for increased atheism. So the question I ask is should some more Gods be made up to cater for people who don't find the existing ones interesting? I think yes |

| Molten Ash Location: Tennessee, USA Posts: 101 | Why not? Let's all make our own god to suit what we like. Too bad we would all have the same one (the god of greed). With science still around there will be fewer gods to come. Soon we may have a grand total of zero gods. Do we really need them anyway? For supply and demand their has to be demand. I think we just don't need the thought of god anymore, so there is no need for anymore. Religion shows the weakness of man; when there was no one for man to blame; he created God. He made him to blame him for the way things are. |

| Igneous Magma Location: London baby, yeah! Posts: 198 | And I like to think all the Roman Gods exist. A man has two reasons for doing anything --- a good reason and the real reason. Let us be thankful for the fools. But for them the rest of us could not succeed In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular. |

| Guest Posts: n/a | it's a kind of superatomic theory. we are all like conscious atoms and the way we associate with eachother creates molecules. we can be limitlessly distant, it does not really matter. what matters is the social atmosphere we generate with eachother. on a grand scale that is observable as society. |

| Molten Ash Posts: 72 | ruiner suggested that we should increase our supply of gods because we seem to be losing them as they die off. He also said, "But as people became more selfish they started promoting their own God and criticizing other Gods. . ." I suggest that to prevent this latter from happening, each person have the choice of having one or more personal gods, but that he/she is never allowed to tell anyone else about his/her gods. That way, no one will promote their own god(s) and no one will be able to criticize any gods any others may or may not happen to have. In other words, "Don't ask; don't tell." Occam |

| Guest Posts: n/a | in all seriousness this entire thread is not a threat. evangelism is such a crock of sheize, unless it flows through voluntary discussion and willing inclusion without threat of hell or a god of fear. actually in israel it is illegal to try to convert jews from judaism. |

Why whould we pray to any new gods anyway unless there is something who can heal depression in a biblical proportion and bring joy to people in heavy arrays of colored pills and other natural variaties, that's a good enough of a messaih for me! Caring is a crime! | |
