For clarification, this thread is intended to be a place where members can share their own personal religious attitudes. From the OP:
Quote:
What is your religious affiliation, why, and what conclusions have you come to about your own religion. Do you accept other ones? If not why...
To debate religion or any other topic raised in someone's post, it would be more productive to use the debate forums and start or join a thread on the topic. I'm not saying there can't be debate here, it is posted to the debate forums. But your points may be overlooked by those who don't check this thread that often.

How does one start a thread on Volconvo?

Is starting a topic thread a class hierarchal privilege here or is it open to all members?

Any member can start a thread. Go to a forum (i.e. Philosophy...) and on the page that shows the threads you should see a red button at the top of the page that says, "New Topic". Click on it and fill in the boxes.

I suppose that my belief system would be concidered existentialist in nature.

My beliefs

I'm a Christian, and believe there is one way to heaven, and to God. He gave us our instruction manual (The Bible), sent us an example of how we are to live (Jesus). I believe all what the Bible says, and not just because of what I learned in Sunday school, but also because of what I've seen in my life and in others.
If you ask me, believing in many faiths with many different paths is like believing in no path at all. If you are going to believe in God (or god) then you need to be firm in what you believe. I'm firm in my beliefs in Christianity, and have enjoyed reading books such as the Shroud of Turin, and Brother Andrew to help me stregnthen my faith. A lot of all religions is about faith, but then again so is science, so if you are going to believe in something, you better be pretty dang sure you BELIEVE in it.

I am a Christian too, but I don't believe the shroud of Turin is the actual shroud of Jesus. Christianity is faith based, and those with faith don't need "physical" proof of the existence of God or Jesus. But I see nothing wrong with reading the book on the Shroud of Turin if you already have faith.

Hebrews 11:1 - Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.:)

Sorry if this sounds bad, but how can faith be enough? I just want to hear your opinion.

I am Christian and I believe ( translate that as KNOW) that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God and there is only ONE way to the Father and that is through Jesus Christ.

Look at the history of the Jews. Look at the fulfilled prophecies of the Bible. Look at the life, teachings, and ressurection of Jesus Christ. AND I have seen God's promises fulfilled in my own life.

Yeah but if you look at it like that, other religions would be correct as well.

Name one other religion that has fufilled historic prophecies.
Name one other nation or society that has survived exile, slavery, persecution, ethnic cleansing, and wholesale slaughter like the Jews and has remained an intact nation and then has returned intact culturally, linguistically, and religiously to their homeland. There are none. That truth speaks volumes.

Let's assume for a minute that these "prophecies" were legitimate (they're not). What would that prove? How do you know that they're not just coincidence?

You are assuming they are not legitimate. Ok, The Jews were predicted to be enslaved 400 yrs in Egypt. It happened. The Jews were predicted to be scattered again after Jesus crucifixtion. It happened. They were predicted to return at some point in history. Ezekiel predicted it would be 2520 yrs from a certain date. That day came on EXACTLY May 14, 1948 when the UN voted to form Israel. At what point does coincidence end? This is only ONE example. There are hundreds of others. Mathmatical probabilities speak against coincidence.

I don't want to play mod, but if you want to argue about the historical value of the bible, you should make a thread on it.

Well the Jewish religion is the mother of Christianity, so I don't know your point.

Buddhism, it's never let me down.

Texasdave, that's all irrelevant because I'm not debating so-called "miracles." You said you knew that your religion was correct, however, you have yet to provide any direct evidence. You have lied to me and everyone here... you only believe.
