I have much speculation on the nature of the soul, and how it would interface with the brain, if you ever wish to have a one-on-one discussion of this topic.
Sure! Strike one up whenever you wish. I don't know if this site has an IM, or e-mail type service so my aim is AinoAIlill and my e-mail caitlin.williamson(at)gmail.com

Sorry about being late catching the above edits, but it's really not a good idea to post your email address in the open forum. It can be scraped by bots or harvested by spiders...all kinds of ways it can bring you grief.

Hey,

I'm new to the forums, and I think a good way to get things rolling here would be to ask something personal about you.

What is your religious affiliation, why, and what conclusions have you come to about your own religion. Do you accept other ones? If not why...

I myself was baptized catholic, but I find myself in a state of disbelief. I tend to keep an open mind, and believe that I do not know enough about my surroundings to judge them yet. I hold an attitude of "if there's a God I've been a good guy, but I'm not going to drink the Kool-Aide" if you get my drift.

so...how about you?

You got to be kidding.

Greetings...I haven't logged onto this forum in many many months..I still get updates in my email and when I read your opening post I decided to respond...Since there are pages and pages of responses I am not going to read them all...So, I apologize now if I say anything that has already been discussed...
Being a Christian is NOT about following or being name a "religion." Why? The Pharisee's and Sauduciee's were all about religion and traditions of men OVER what Jesus Christ presented to the world...So, being a follower of Jesus Christ is not Catholic, Baptist, Pentecostal, Non-Denominational, or any other man named religious organization...Those names of religion are mere traditions of men...
Secondly, you stated that you trend to keep an open mind and do not know enough about your surroundings yet to judge them yet...Well yes, if you did know enough about the Word, you would know that your statement should not have been said...We are not to judge anyone, that is God's job...The word tells us not to judge or least we be judged....
I am not knocking you....The word tells us to use the Word to rebuke, correct and teach...I was just correcting you in love, so please do not take offense to it...Those that remain in that "religious" spirit will see this as some self-righteous act by me, but that's okay...If you really want truth you must have a teachable spirit...Remain open to correction without judging others...
Being baptized by water also does not mean being baptized into a religion...When you are baptized you are adopted into the Body of Christ to serve HIM, the church is in YOU not 4 wall of a building...
Lastly...Have you ever heard that old saying, "the road to hell is paved with good intentions.." Our "good works" does not allow us entrance into heaven...The word tells us that it is not through our good works so that any man can boast...You can't earn your way into heaven by telling everyone hello, mowing your neighbors lawn, driving someone to the doctor, etc.....
(If Christ didn't send you to do these things, it will be burned up as wood, hay and stubble on the day of judgement...) The works that Christ sends us to do for His glory, not our own, will decide our rewards in heaven...SO, with that said your only entrance into heaven is by accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior...By doing this you are justified...It is up to each person to allow themselves to go the next step which is sanctification...This step is where you allow more of Christ in you and less of YOU in you...The old man comes off and new man comes alive, being made pure and holy....
Blessings...

A freethinker is a person whose views are formed on the basis of reason and logic independently of authority.. esp a person who denies religious dogma..

We are atheists.. a neophyte "freethinker" may be an agnostic.. there are no "weak atheists" lol.. all fence sitters are agnostics..

I'm a Frisbeeterian.

We believe that when you die, your soul goes on the roof and you can't get it down.

Actually, I was born Methodist, then when I was four, my Dad died, so we went back to Mom's church which was First Baptist. She got re-married to a Catholic when I was twelve so we dabbled in that for a while, and then they moved to Utah and joined the Mormons. I moved there later but did NOT fall victim to "Smith's Folly" while behind the Zion Curtian.

I guess I get to be Agnostic now, since I have no problem with a Prime Mover of the Universe, but the Bible just doesn't do it for me. God has too many human weaknesses.

Big Jr is watching you!

god, how stupid of me to think otherwise.

firstly, weak atheism does exist. secondly, all fence sitters are NOT agnostic, that is an ignorant assertion to make. read up on your definitions.

I think freely. My opinion is formed on the basis of reason and logic, quite independent of authority, and this has had led me to deism, not atheism or agnosticism.

Captain Chaos,

Could you specify what you mean by "deism"?

Wikipedia sums it up well:

Deism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Basically, it is belief in god(s) based on evidence and reason. The wikipedia site claims it as belief in one god - I am not so sure that is a necessary component of a definition of deism.

The definition of the word god is so varied, that it is hard to pin down where various religions stand.

Christians believe in one supreme being - but the christian archangels would still count as gods, if you compare their power to that of Roman and Greek deities.
