Nice to meet you.

I am a proud agnostic.

Now keep your god on your side of the fence.

See ya after the neighborhood soccer match.....

(see how easy that is)
I bring my daughter to a valentine's day party next door...

She rubs off the hidden message in the valentine thingy...

And it says...

"Jesus loves you"

Try living in exurbia, Georgia. Keeping the religious nuttiness out of your life is not so easy.

That's something worth vomiting over I have to say. If I had to discover the identity of my 'lover' in that way, I'd go ape.

I can see where it would be quite annoying to you, gota be tough. Everyone has their right to believe what they want but to push it on others is taboo.

I don't really like the structure of this forum.
You need to be able to keep a debate concise, and not have 63 pages worth of separate comments in isolation.

I think that 'The Question' deserves specific targeted which people can follow a discussion and not one where people just come to unload there 'thought' and leave.

I am a Christian(a follower of Jesus Christ) and I value common-sense and sober judgement. I find that God is not hidden at all and clear to anyone willing to look to find Him.

podBoy, welcome to Volconvo.

You will notice as you look at other threads some are quite specific while others are more general. This thread is one of the general ones, a sort of "getting to know you" kind of thread focused on your religion or lack thereof.

You'll find other threads that deal with specific topics grouped together in topical forums. You are also encouraged to start your own discussion if you don't see one that addresses the issues you want to debate. All we ask is that you choose the correct forum for the threads you start and that you follow the forum rules.

I was raised Lutheran, but consider myself just simply Christian. I believe that there shouldn't be different classifications of Christians. We all believe in Christ and that's what's important.

It goes a bit further than mere belief, the devil believes in Christ.

Why can't you all agree to hold different beliefs, after all, in one congregation, people hold different personal beliefs. Hence me, pretty much an agnostic, attending church from time to time.

So, this is an open debate, not a one on one argument, we can jump in whenever we feel like it.

It's good to always learn, when one's faith becomes stagnant is when the problems begin.

Well there are really so many choices out there, the religion that probably suits you right down to the ground is probably out there, it just might not be what you think it is. Its always good to try and learn.

Hey, awesome! I am also a UU!

Did you know the first six presidents of the U.S. were either Unitarians or Deists?

The Unitarian Universalist church does not have religious dogma. Their central beliefs revolve around the idea of a free and independent search for truth and meaning, and the interconnectedness of life. There are UUs who are atheist, deist (including myself), pagan, Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, and a variety of other belief systems.

However, the origins of both the Unitarian and Universalist aspects of the church are in Christian Universalism, and Deism. Hellfire-touting baptists would certainly be allowed to join the church, but they would not find anyone who shares their beliefs.

Yep. I have also just about perfected the rolling eyes when someone asserts this country was founded on "Christian principles" :)

The best thing I can do to answer this is direct you to the UUA website's FAQ section and the page on our seven principles.
