So you've learned nothing just like so many others. You know, don't bother me anymore with bull shit. Besides you never gave me enough information on your experence, hell you could be a big bull shiter.
If I'd have learned nothing, I'd still believe in god like I did when I was in high school.

If you'd bothered to actually read past posts in this forum, you'd have seen where I've mentioned my time in the service before. But to help you out;
1975, 376th ASA attached to the 10th Special Forces. Under fire in a country we weren't supposed to be in (at that time) conducting activities we weren't supposed to be doing. Unfortunately I just managed to qualify as a Vietnam vet.

I was later under fire as a cop in California. None of my partners, who saved my skinny ass more than once, were god either.

For myself, I see no point in explaining my military background, because it's something I don't like to brag about, in order to make it seem as though my opinion is better then someone else's.

If you have been on the battlefield, you have a different perspective on things.... but those who haven't, still have a valid opinion and shouldn't be downgraded because they haven't.

Trying to say "I did this and you didn't, so I know more then you" is just an ignorant way of closing your mind to other options in life, because you think you already know everything.

I was born into a Catholic family.
I chose to be Baptized Mormon.
I studied Mormon religion and found I respected their beliefs and am very comfortable with this religion.

OK anf this is where we all have the issue with people shoving religion down each others throats, cant we all just agree to disagree, maybe God exists , maybe not , like I have said before, was raised catholic, but I take issue with child molesting priests, and the fact that women are considered non persons in the catholic church , I believe in me . and what I can do to make my life better , why does it always have to be about some big looming agry father type to keep us in line werent we all raised with a basic set of morals and ethics , isnt that good enough ??????lets see here , I dont know what I am . but I believe if I am a good person I will leave a mark on the world , and hopefully touch peoples lives even after I die, no heaven, no hell, and the only ressurection is when even after your soul dies, your memory lives on.

If you think about it too much, you won't believe? I understand, but with that logic, we wouldn't have ever progressed past a flat earth.
Believing in God isn't scientific, it's having faith. You almost have to believe blindly in it, otherwise, you won't be able to move past the doubts. I wasn't trying to make a profound statement, this is just what a friend told me many years ago, and after she said it I thought, "she's right". Personally, I always thought way too much about it, and eventually it ruins the whole thing.

[quote=Down;140]I am agnostic. I am very science and logic oriented, and since there is (as far as I can tell) no way to prove the existance or the non-existance of a god, I choose to stand in the middle. I do not like comiting my beliefs to something that has a good chance of being completely wrong, so I wont. I also dont believe that we will ever find any absolute, whether it be in science, religion, philosophy, or anything. I believe that there is an absolute somewhere, but that we will never know it.

I agree, and believe the same thing.

Yeah, putting religion into a logical and reasonable light usually kills the novelty.

Wives and kids!

From his Catholic roots, he could have like 10 kids per wife. If he is an old-school Mormon, he would have like 8 wives.

Wow, he could have like 80 kids!!!!!

Any truth to this rumor?

religion and activism

Hi!
I'm a born catholic, and a peace-loving anti-war activist. Oxymoron you say??Not at all. I have sought out people who think as I do, both inside and outside my religion and it has been very rewarding. I'm a member of PaxChristi (Peace of Christ) in NY, which is an international peace organization. Religion is faith and spiritual guidance...if you are needing that. If not, then do good..in whatever way you can. The US freedom of religion NEEDS to be just that...not people trying to impose their relgious beliefs on others! Just my 2 cents! Thanks.

Sounds familiar to me. I remember in high school listening to the Berrigan brothers at rallies. They were very instrumental in the anti-war movement.

Berrigans

Thanks, Isherwood!
I had the honor of hearing and meeting Fr. Dan Berrigan a few weeks ago! (at a non-catholic church)...and also Bishop Thomas Gumbleton. Both were welcomed by protestant clergy in small towns near here (mid-hudson valley of NY). Verrrrry interesting, no?

As an atheist, I tend to discount a person's religious beliefs in judging their essential character. The Berrigans, despite my disagreement with their religious views, are heroes to me in that they stood up for their beliefs in the face of criticism from society and their own church at times, as well as very real persecution from the U.S. government.
The fact that they were anti-war at a time when I was also anti-war just added to my respect.

Same. I judge a person on his or her character, not what religion they follow. Though if they were demonic satanist worshipping kind of people, I'd be wary, just because I might get sacrificed.

Im athiest, by the way
