why all the hating?

I am noticing a lot of hating in our everyday lives, people seem to thrive on it,rich, poor, black, white, fat, thin, clever, not so clever, tall, small, young, old, are all hated and all hate someone/somthing . Why dont we all just sit down and consider that we are here for such a short period of time, and we REALLY are, and concentrate on making the most of it for ourselves and others.

Hippie.

Seriously, I think hatred is unfortunately a natural human state of mind. It can be a result of our need to classify the world around us and of our need for high self esteem. We classify people into in-groups and out-groups, the groups given names such as black, white, fat, thin, liberal, conservative etc. Because of our need for high self esteem, we over estimate the positive aspects of our in-groups and the negative qualities of out-groups. This gives a sense of superiority which can lead to hatred and resentment from both sides.

There is other research to suggest that factors such as strict upbringing can lead to repressed anger which is displaced onto others. Then of course there’s hatred for the obvious reason of simply thinking somebody is an asshole.

I'm not sure I can really give this a short answer (stop laughing) but...

I hate neo-nazi and facist ideas and I REALLY dislike, maybe even hate, those who expouse and support those ideas. I do not consider that wrong.

I hate it when African -Americans hate on gays and when gays hate on African-Americans. I find that to be the hights of hipocracy and silliness. It degrades the notion of eqaulity and judging someone for "the content of their character".

Hating people because they are French or Jewish or rich or poor is stupid. Calling bad behavior bad and disliking the actons of Klan members or militant religious fanatics (no matter what religion they claim to represent) is smart and leads towards a safer and better world for all.

Extrapolate those ideas onto the ful range of human prejudices and moral failings.

Hating is one of human natures as a contarary to love. It usually develops due to misunderstanding and also some times due to others ill actions

Without hate, we wouldn't have love. Without light, we wouldn't have dark.

Hate is necessary. I think it's got to do more with envy and or jealousy. It really depends on the situation. I usually start hating things when I'm pissed off at something completely different, which doesn't happen very often.

I suppose what i actually mean is why cant we just live and let live, show some respect to those around us, and strive to make things better for those who are less fortunate. We are here for such a short time,a moment in fact, why dont we just appreciate it?

Because some of us are always attemting to tell others of us what to do, think, and say.

Thats a trump card in my book, and wins whomever a life long sentence regardless of cirumstance.

I guess you are pretty well off if you can't think of a single reason to work up a good hatred of anybody, or anything. ( Partucularly at this exact moment in time )

Perhaps you should keep quite lest anybody find out how well off you are, and ruin it for you.

@underbear

Nice pics you posted.

I always like when people hide behind pictures because they think they need to trigger an emotional response.

And it doesn't help that you include the picture of some kid in with the pictures of abuse of prisoners. Those prisoners, regardless of their treatment, were in prison for a reason.

If this is you trying to sneak in that people hate Gays, the Black side of my heritage would like to tell you to shut up and wait until someone can tell from your skin color that you are different, then decide you are subhuman and enslave you in a distant country for a couple centuries.

You see hatred against Gays as a tragedy; I see it as an improvement.

Consider that instead of being biased about something someone truly cannot hide, like Gender or Ethnicity, there is hatred against a group with the ability to hide what they are if they don't like it.

They shouldn't have to hide, but since this is an aspect of their personal life that is no one else's business, if they want to shout it out they should expect the hatred as well as the support.

So as far as ending Gay-hate goes, realize that in some ways Blacks and Women are still struggling for equality. Give it time, and be thankful that the Gay Rights movement is standing on the shoulders of giants like Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, John F. Kennedy, and Abraham Lincoln, to name a few.

You know, people who had more to lose by representing equality than they had to gain.

But whereas "dark" is technically "the absence of light", I don't think "hate" is "the absence of love".

Light and Dark are not opposites. Opposing forces imply that with the absence of either, you have the same thing. The absence of Light and the absence of Dark are each other.

But Love and Hate are opposite. The absence of either is Indifference.

Consider the following...
(and I'm dredging up a new argument, just using it as an example)

Without belief in God or non-belief in God, is Agnostic; the Unknown.

Without Love or Hate is Indifference.

When you have true opposites, a fact of human psychology is that most people would rather choose a side, no matter the extreme, than accept the absence of something.

People would rather make a choice on God than accept that it's truly Unknown.

People would rather Hate than be indifferent.

That's a funny thing about it; that Hate is so easy. Kindness and courteous, even Indifferent Politeness, takes effort.

I agree indifference is the opposite of love, but hate isn't easy..........it's exhausting.
Indifference is what's EASY...........polite or inpolite doesn't much matter to me, once someone stops caring or having passions, they may as well lie down and die.

"You see hatred against Gays as a tragedy; I see it as an improvement."
and that is the difference between us, you'll hate me for who I am and who I love, and I won't hate you for your race. Don't mistake that I won't hate you, it just won't be because of your race. or any other immutable quality, as an individual I find you loathsome.
As for photos being powerful ....well duh!
Abu Ghraib released HUNDREDS of their captives, who were just Iraquis they captured, nothing was proven against them, and they chose weaker younger boys to terrorise with dogs til they soiled themselves, and played on their aversion to gay sex and nudity to humiliate Muslims. So did they stop being terroists when they got released, or did they tell every other Muslim they knew how they got treated?

Fonceai -

But we "hidden" gays who sometimes do choose to not discuss our personal lives have something to deal with that no dark skinned person ever has - the idiots who think they are talking to a "normal" person, and proceed to rant and rave about the "damn faggots and perverts". I work for a small company in a small town in a very conservative area of the country. I am out to all of my family and friends, but I do not share or discuss at work. I have to deal with the crap anyway. Imigine if you were a light-skinned black and KKKers approached you all the time, talking about how "niggers" were ruining the country. Tell 'em you are one, you may get fired or desend into a hell at your work place. Keep it to yourself and be exposed to the mindless, hurtful crap on a regular basis.

Be careful what you consider an advantage...
