The Walmart Bible letter

This link is almost too funny. People of all faiths should read it.
Then lets discuss it

Its up to you.
Did you read it?
Do you believe what the Bible says is real or a farce.

I believe it is real, but quoting the law for the Jews from the old testament is pointless, we are under a new covenant and none of that applies anymore, it's history, it's there to make a point, and if you don't believe the point would be lost on you anyway. and it's not like wal-mart sells a lot of bibles each wal-mart may have 20 bibles in them, I know I inventory the damn stores.

I signed it and passed it along in my blog.

I believe if fundamentalists insist the bible is god's literal truth, then they ought to accept the consequences. Wal-Mart has long refused to sell Cd's that are unedited if the lyrics are considered obscene and/or advocate violence. The bible quotations are accurate, and though not mentioned, the Song of Solomon would easily violate many community's obscenity standards.

So you do believe it is real. It is hard for me to believe anyone who would believe God could be this evil could call themselves a follower of Christ.
By the way, just what point is it trying to make?
Jesus of Nazareth would have nothing to do with the christian religion. He was much greater than that.
God is much greater than the horrible creature the bible depicts him to be.
We are all much greater than any religion would have us to be.
God is Good.
Religion is evil.

You should have read the letter before posting. It addresses that issue. This is not censorship, it's a matter of asking that Wal-Mart be consistent in their policies and not make exceptions for a religious group. No one is asking that the bible not be sold anywhere.

I read the letter, and I don't care if wal-mart stops selling their 2 bibles a month, but where will the attacks on christianity stop? will we have to wear crosses on our clothes soon?

"Attacks"? Give me a break. We question your faith, we refuse to buy into your philosophy, we disagree with your interpretation of reality. If in your paranoia you consider that attacking, then I guess we never will. Your fantastic religious views already enjoy a majority in this country. What more could you want?
As long as christians continue to demand that all Americans bow before their concept of god, expect us to resist.

Hey our government invaded 3 countries, attcked and murdered hundreds of thousands of innocent people because your president thinks God told him to. He believes in the bible god. Do you believe this is the way Jesus would have us be? Or are you just another Rapture Nazi?
I am not attacking you. I am just trying to heal you from your afflictions, for you have been brainwashed.

I see the letter as a truly objective attempt to define the Bible by it's own terms.

The Q'uran also mandates violence and is the center of Islama-christian controversy.

It is a good thing that most Christians are not resolved in their belief.
If so, they would behave very violently, compared even to their excessively violent past and present trespasses against "God's enemies" (lol)

Thank goodness for half-hearted faiths and fair-weather worshippers!

Thanks for the letter.

Please. This is such a load. You're all for first amendment rights when it means putting lewdity, violence and perversion on display, but suddenly you get all pro-censorship when it affords you the chance to suppress a religion you don't like. Hypocrites.

This amuses me to no end. If bible thumping Christians want to tell me what I can and can not read, they are simply upholding the "moral standards of the community" but if you use the VERY LOGIC they profess to be sound and they find themselves "hoist by their own petards", suddenly it's really all about Christian bashing.

Not at all. Like I said, Wal-Mart is the one who decided not to sell anything it considered lewd, too violent or obscene. They're the ones you should direct your ire toward. This petition simply asks them to consistently apply their standards across the board without regard to the influence of a particular interest group.
I'd be fine with them selling the bible if they'll also start carrying unedited music.

It doesn't work like that. For Christians to be offended by what is perceived as immorality is consistent with the ideology. For those of a more socially liberal mindset to push for the suppression of a particular ideology is hypocrisy.

Apparently WalMart is not willing to stand behind the literal word of the "good book."

I saw no evidence of that. Did you not actually click the link?

Comes close to having a "warning label" on the Bible - don't you think?

They are not asking that no one sell the Bible. They are asking Wal-Mart to apply the same standards to "Christian" products that they apply to others. This is about calling Wal-mart on their hipocracy. You do not get one standard for "your" point of view and a second for everyone elses. I'm sure if you asked, anyone who thinks like I do would be more than happy to have both Bibles and the un-edited Pink CD in Wal-Mart, but if one has to go, they both gotta go, if Wal-Mart does not wish to be hypocritical.
