Of course it is. It is an irrational belief in supernatural creatures and/or forces for which there is no verifiable proof. That is the very definition of faith and therefore religion.

Which is why atheism and agnosticism and humanism are not religions. They are worldviews whose principles are rooted in evidentiary fact and logic.

Ah the power of the meme displayed. How else can a perfectly rational individual delude themself into believing that nonsens is evidence and evidence is nonsense?

Click the "meme" link in my sig.

Questioning your own worldview, eh? That sounds like a good sign.

No, but thanks. If it were worth anything you would have quoted right here.

The word "memes" in my sig links to a FAQ I posted about memes. It's easier to link to said FAQ than to draw threads off-topic by re-explaining a concept that you can research on your own time. Don't be afraid. The nice link won't bite. Give it a little tappy with your mousy.

I said what I said about it. That is the end of the discussion. That you do not have the balls is nothing new, but I shall not waste my time with your corrupt websites.

Lots Of Luck to you too, but as I said, it will not be part of the exchange between the two of us. Now that you know how it will be....

Sheesh, what a grouch, Vern. I actually feel I have more in common with the unbelievers here than with rigid ideologies like yours. They're just lost. You think you're found, but your attitude isn't gratitude, it's accusation and sarcasm...

It is also unacceptable, Vern do not insult other members of Volconvo.

Do not respond to this warning within the thread, any questions should be sent to Sean or myself via PM.

Vern, do not insult other members of Volconvo.

Very clearly this rule applies only to me. Thanks for making that clear.

And I dictate the terms of the discussion. You get snotty with me and I disregard your ravings. But then you have your God-hating pals running the joint, so you are not held to a standard of decency or behavior, which means I make such decisions.

:-)

(Nor do I read private messages, which are just as easily deleted as ignored.)

I had to vote "other" because it is not totally just a religion, for some it is just a form of religious worship or belief, but for others it is not realistically a religion.

Some view it as a crusade that has strong political overtones.

Some view it as a social event where you can find entertainment and network with members of your comunnity (which is good for business purposes).

Some see it as a dependancy that helps them to overocme phychological problems.

So it would depend upon why a person attends a Christian church as to rather it is a true religion or not.

At least relative to individuals.

It almost doesn't seem right that this thread doesn't have a post from Starboy proclaiming religion to be a mental illness. :)

Yes, I agree, christianity in all its flavors is a religion. When polls ask citizens if they're religious, they seem to understand the term adequately.

Could you be more clear? In reading through the thread, it appears that possibly you are challenging one member's definition.

Kindly quote or re-state the exact definition referenced here. I answered the poll based on the generality of the term.

Or was that the intent? To ask and receive answers on the general meaning of the term? (late, tired, maybe not understanding)

Paul invented Christianity to fleece gullible people. It is the longest running pyramid scheme in history; new suckers are buying into it every day. Paul tried to escape prosecution by claiming Roman citizenship, but Nero put an end to him.

Hmmm... I'm beginning to see those Romans as heros...they were trying to stop something ugly before it started.
