Growing wealth widens distance between lawmakers and constituents

A Volconvo member recommended this article to me, Growing wealth widens distance between lawmakers and constituents.

The article is worth a read, but, as the member pointed out, the graphics are startling.

Congressional net worth more than doubles since 1984. The net wealth of members of the U.S. House of Representatives has increased over the years, with net worth in 2009 more than double that of 1984, but American family wealth has been stagnant. While Republicans are somewhat wealthier than their Democratic counterparts, the gap between them two has narrowed considerably.

Family wealth has remained stagnant despite of the fact that families are aggressively tapping into their human resources, with the number of dual-earning households steadily growing.

Every day there's less reason to refer to them as our "representatives" in government.

Well unfortunately when any entity is allowed to set their own wages in government then there's no real way to stop them from becoming as rich as they want to.
