What's up with Hitler?

First and formost, I am in no way a Hitler or Nazi sympathizer. But what's up with all the Hitler references in political debates? Especially Saddam/Hitler comparisons. Stalin killed more of his own people than Hitler did, ya know. Throughout history there have been a huge amount of genocidal leaders. If I had a nickel for every time I've heard or read about someone comparing Hitler to a modern-day leader or politician... I'd have a lot of money. So... since when has Hitler won all credit for all evil things done by secular leaders?

A blog pundit said a while back that when the opposition whips out the Hitler comparison, the reasonable discussion is over.

The use of extreme examples is an indication of the flimsiness of the argument.

It's because more people know who Hitler is and what he did. Plus he hurt the poor widdle Jews, and everyone cares more about them.

Maybe it's the Neo Nazi groups and skinheads which idolize and emulate him, which keeps him as a topic of discussion. I know of no Neo-Stalinists. If an arguement is discussing Nazi tactics and you bring up Hitler, that doesn't negate your point of view. Survivors of the Holocaust knew revisionist history would take place, that's why they swore NEVER AGAIN. If we ignore early signs of fascism, we are risking repeating those horrors.

um hello??? the man tried to kill an entire race or people and then some..gays, gypsys..ect. He was a supreme racist. Hitler didnt kill his people, he killed jews, jews were not his people. his people had blonde hair and blue eyes.

If you think Hitler didn't kill his own people, you need to study. If you think his own people were blonde haired and blue eyed, you also need to study.

There are not neo-Stalinists but there are certainly Communists.

ok than educate me belial, i'm not a big hitler enthusiast. Who were his people? and why did he kill them. and i'm pretty sure that his people were of the aryan race..what he considered to be the perfect race. all i'm trying to say is that hitler should get credit for being evil.

and just to add the only time i know of when hitler would acutally kill HIS people is if they refused to fight in the war. I know this as fact. My grandfather fought for the german army. He didnt want to, but did because if he would have whole-heartedly refused his family would have been shot in front of his eyes and then he would have.

Yeah, Hitler killed anyone who opposed him or refused to serve under him in any way. The SA(Brownshirts) helped Hitler take power, but they ended up being chaotic bullies and Hitler no not tolerant of disorder, so he had the SS kill all the SA. All of which were "his people."

Yeah, if I recall the SS matched them off as a big group, or several big groups, and gunned them all down.

Also, the answer to this topic is "He blows." You can lock it now, mods.

Someone else said there were no neo-Stalinists. I wasn't sure so I didn't argue the point.

And yes, exaggerated mockery is always a sign of prejudice, right?

Well, if you call making fun of genocide "exaggerated mockery", the issue becomes one of abuse of language, aside from any question of racism.

You can't say "Mind you, I'm no racist; some of my best friends ... " while saying stuff like "da mean ol Mistah Hitler he hurt da poor widdle Jews". The two just don't fit.

Not sure how I'm a homophobe considering I've talked over and over about equal rights for homosexuals, but underbear is even more paranoid than me and looks for persecution.

My comment was said to make a point. The question was why Hitler is used so often as opposed to some other dictator and mass murderer. I said first it was because he's more recent. I also said more people know about him because his victims were Jews. I said it partially to screw with Shrike. You guys said "Crying 'Hitler' shows a weak argument." Well so does crying "racist" and "anti-Semite."

No, I wasn't planning to say "I have Jewish friends." I do, in fact one offered to teach me if I wanted to convert, but that's neither here nor there. I can say anything online and I have no proof, so claiming friends is stupid.

The fact of the matter is, I'll never meet any of you and you'll never affect my life so if you need to villainize me, by all means do so. When I see people get all serious in these places it makes me laugh. Please, make me laugh.

EDIT: I also noticed the addition of "mean ol mistah hitler" or something there. Obviously my words had to be edited in order to more fully villainize me.

I know why people "hate me," assuming that you can hate someone over the internet. You make the mistake of thinking I care.

And how often do I joke about "wrong things?"

What I mean is, half the things you take as jokes are said in seriousness.

Why couldn't you?
Anyway, I don't hate you, SOB -- yet. (Yeah, yeah, I know: You don't care.)
So far I put it down to an overweening love of provocation.
Especially if that photo of you is real. :)
