A slice of "America"

Damn, it's weird how we all came here from other countries. Our ancestors were mostly very below the image we would like to bear. I'm not arguing "ownership" or "rights" over the land, but it comes to show you how an inviting environment breeded greed among the advantaged. The ones who had the upper hand somehow... There is no other "country" that boasts such a diversity, correct me if Im wrong

Oh I think Canada might give you a run for your self-congratulatory money.

But do you guys think there is a trade off between comfort and identity? Think of those other countries that have it hard but somehow live happier.

Nah, UK has an ethnic minority population of about 8%, while the US runs at about 25-30% I believe. If you took London out of the equasion that percentage would drop further.

Or are we talking about variety alone?

You can hardly expect countries that have been the object of mass immigration for only a couple of decades -- by contrast with the US, Canada, Australia, NZ, Argentina, etc. -- to have quite the same variety. That may come with time.

(Also, why would you take away London? Then better take away NY, LA, etc.)

London is not not reflective of the UK as a whole. If you only knew the UK from London, you would assume we are a vibrant, multi-cultural and cosmopolitan society. We're not. We're largely homogenous, divided and suspicious of the "other" communities. And while the US may be divided and even more bigoted than we are, you can hardly call it homogenous.

No wonder the rest of the world hates us. "We're the best! Woo! Everyone wants to come here! Woo!" Soooo, how many U.S. citizens are immigrants? Directly, I mean; it hardly seems fair to base our popularity on immigration trends from 100 years ago. Count how many Americans you know that live within, say, a mile of you. Now count the immigrants. And you still think everyone wants to come here? You still think everyone wants to be like us? Why would they?
I live here, and I don't want to be like us.
Nono, mi dispiace. Sono stronzi.
Oder: Entschuldigung. Wir sind Arschlochen.

EDIT: (Too bitter.) Look, we do great things; we are great people. But it's not because we're Americans, it's because we're people. People are good, including us. But Americans, when we put on our national superhero outfit, are really horrible to the rest of the world, and it ain't a good thing. As individuals, we're really nice; some of my best friends are Americans. But we have to start seeing our birthplace as just circumstance; it shouldn't define us.
