| Cause for Concern Location: Planet Earth Posts: 664 | A slice of "America" Damn, it's weird how we all came here from other countries. Our ancestors were mostly very below the image we would like to bear. I'm not arguing "ownership" or "rights" over the land, but it comes to show you how an inviting environment breeded greed among the advantaged. The ones who had the upper hand somehow... There is no other "country" that boasts such a diversity, correct me if Im wrong |

Or are we talking about variety alone? Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery. Winston Churchill | |

That may come with time. (Also, why would you take away London? Then better take away NY, LA, etc.) "I wish I was as cocksure of anything as Tom Macaulay is of everything." -- Viscount Melbourne |

| Moral Turnip Location: Oregon, US Posts: 2,283 | No wonder the rest of the world hates us. "We're the best! Woo! Everyone wants to come here! Woo!" Soooo, how many U.S. citizens are immigrants? Directly, I mean; it hardly seems fair to base our popularity on immigration trends from 100 years ago. Count how many Americans you know that live within, say, a mile of you. Now count the immigrants. And you still think everyone wants to come here? You still think everyone wants to be like us? Why would they? I live here, and I don't want to be like us. Nono, mi dispiace. Sono stronzi. Oder: Entschuldigung. Wir sind Arschlochen. EDIT: (Too bitter.) Look, we do great things; we are great people. But it's not because we're Americans, it's because we're people. People are good, including us. But Americans, when we put on our national superhero outfit, are really horrible to the rest of the world, and it ain't a good thing. As individuals, we're really nice; some of my best friends are Americans. But we have to start seeing our birthplace as just circumstance; it shouldn't define us.
