Zealot: Help or Hindrance?

The member Zealot. He starts lots of threads that seem to be disjointed and poorly supported. I just saw that his threads were the six at the top of the new posts list... he does "remain engaged", but I can't say much for his style. I don't think he is a real asset to the site, but maybe a lot of you folks feel the same way about me, heh.

Anyway, I wish Zealot would be more coherent and logical in his arguments. I don't mind that right wing, Bushbot attitude of his, 'cause it gives us libs something to argue with. But is it asking too much to expect a bit of sophistry?

He's not exactly a troll, because he doesn't flame or insult, and as for rudeness, shoot, I'm meaner than him. And I'm a nice guy (everybody knows that...)

But sometimes I wish he hadn't discovered us...

You're just mad because his made-up story proved cowardice is the ultimate sin. This upsets you because the point is so relevant to all of our lives.

Help or hindrance? Neither. We're all free to respond or ignore and as long as he remains civil, the level of coherance doesn't bother me.

I've seen a LOT worse.

As much as I frequently disagree with Zealot, I too would not consider him the worst, or even close to the worst, I've ever run into on a forum. He's a bit full of himself, but that's not a crime.
Of course you're free to disregard my opinion as I thought Checkmate was really trying to make sense. I was totally unaware of the crap he was pulling in the background. Maybe I'm being too charitable (which I believe could be the greatest sin according to the athiest's code ).

One vote for, one vote against. Hm. Not sure about this.

I finally found a talent I'm good at, and you want to shatter my dreams. If I find something I can do well, I should go for it. Don't you agree? Do not we all do this?

Finally...

WHY thank you Son, I am pleasently surprised and complimented all in one! But you are right as usual!

Ah, spot the sarcasm blinkers...

I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered.

You also have a natural ability to miss blatant sarcasm.

Don't you hate when that happens... you toss out just a great line, then... whoosh... right over their heads.

I find Zealot to be mostly a waste of space. He makes entertainingly over the top and/or insane comments and often gets his facts wildly wrong. Not a bad sort really, but he doesn't actually enter into a debate with anyone. Easy to ignore, usually necessary to ignore.

I think he's a detractor. Without a target that easy, we'd start fighting each other, which would improve our sparring abilities and allow us to clarify our own opinions -- surely the goal of good debate? As it is now, we seem to be experts in zinging Zealot, but what else have we done? Look at me: I can nail him, but any of the rest of you pick on me, I curl up in a ball and wave my fists like a wailing newborn, damnit. I need to get in more fights with you all, not scan the threads looking for Zealot's posts to mock to reclaim some of my tattered self esteem.
Well what do you know -- I'm pretty good at zinging myself, too.

I don't think it's a fair fight, actually. I can't remember when our resident Lewis Carroll made enough sense to display a point you can go after.

Exactly... it's like arguing with a six yr-old. As any fan of Calvin and Hobbes knows, when you're playing Calvinball, the goal is not to acquire skill but simply to win, by changing the rules in your favor whenever necessary, whether it makes sense or not.
