Well it's clear from debate activity lately that the '08 election's going to be heavily focused on gun control and immigration; if we're getting into such a tizzy about it, imagine the arguments our beloved politicos are going to dust off for THEIR debates.

Defending Bishop because I put him in his place? AWWW Chris, you're so sweet to do that for him! It's amazing how that works around here.

Shouldn't Mods be barred from this thread, it's too easy to show their bias in here...

give me a goddamned break.

How is holding an opinion the same thing as "defending" someone?

What is this the 6th grade?

Yeah, that's it - when somebody takes down your weak-ass argument, don't change your view or find evidence to support your original statement. Just try to disqualify them from posting.

Way to advance the debate, V. Typical.

Actually, I agree that defending yourself is conservative in the sense that there is nothing new or progressive about it. We are the result of untold ages of natural selection survivors, no doubt many of which faced dangers before propagating their code. Hired defense is conservative as well. Nothing new there. But I get the impression left-wing favors hired defense and right wing favors self defense although both want some of each,

V clearly didn't mean "conservative" in terms of wanting to hold on to the values of the past. He meant "conservative" as in Republican - the party of guns and the death penalty (two things that have been proven again and again do not increase our "self-defense" as they increase; i.e. no matter how many guns and executions you have in the US, crime will always be dependent on other variables).

This is clear from the fact that he said "some of you don't get it," as in some of you non-Republicans.

Not wanting to publicly yield his inaccurate position to anyone (let alone a non-Republican), he will deny this now, of course.

then he switched to a diatribe about how older generations have more nails than younger generations.. when i showed that some of the kids were also heroic he responds with this great contribution:

So anyway what this has boiled down to is, Mr. Bishop the "real conservative" of Volconvo is wrapped up in Politically Correct sentimentalism.
good thing for me that i have really low expectations about what to expect from him.

heh.. but alas, he definitely put me in my place. :)

hope for america...

I know a lot of you enjoy this thread, but unfortunately it has been the subject of countless post reports and it definitely does a lot to cause inter-community frictions that manifest elsewhere.

Sorry, guys. I'm going to have to close this one down.
