The Chinese food you get in Western restaurants resemble little to what we have in real life China. What you guys get is usually a compromise, a slight fusion between east and west.
so were are the origins of some of the foods I mentioned?

No, I missed this thread when I was on vacation. I'm not an expert in Chinese cooking, but yeah the Chinese food served in the west is slightly different from that served in China to cater for western tastes, though I must say that due to Chinese immigration to the west, the difference is less marked than before.

No, I'm still unemployed.

Just back from summer vacation, so I haven't sent out any new job applications yet.

What about you? Last time I heard you landed this part-time job right?

nah, i've been a full-time (senior) consultant since this the end of march. this assignment probably won't end until next march, but i'm not worried about that. i'm a salaried/permanent consultant, so when this gig ends, i don't lose my job and keep getting paid.

i'm just using the job for experience though. i'll have my master's in about a year. once i finish, i'm going job hunting again. going to a top-30 school, i intend to cash this baby in.

hope for america...

No, vacation means having fun. Not being cooped up in Hong Kong, trying to get a job.

Watch Iron Chef, and take a drink everytime they say "prawn". You'll be hammered before the final battle.

Yes.

I said a Chinese dinner in the UK cost £11 and the same dinner in the US costs $7

11 GBP = 19.36 USD
