You all saw the flap about Ward Churchill talking about how few of us in the Left actually do anything that helps. Now I see a Counterpunch article which says the same thing in another way.

What do you think? Is armed revolt and sabotage the only answer?

To be honest, I'm not sure that there is any way to be a 'Leftie' in the US without attracting scorn and ridicule - at least, at the moment. The closest you can get is essentially a moderate centrist - if that makes any real sense. However, I would argue that individual issues are slowly re-educating the people that there has to be some other option rather than your current political situation. Bits & pieces like Iraq, the Patriot Act, John Bolton.....are all contributing to a sense of unease in the American public. Whether this will manifest as a swing towards the Left is yet to be seen, but I live in hope.

It really is sad the strict lines that are drawn between people in this country right now. "Left" or "Right", "Liberal" or "Conservative".....I mean there are some things about the Right that make sense to me, but then there is alot to me that doesn't. The main thing that turns me off about the "Right" is the extreme Christian zealotry that goes on and the extreme "Patriotism". So many want a "black and white" world to live in and that's just not the case. Many shades of gray in between. But I agree, it doesn't seem like the Left are accomplishing much, not that will deter me from being "Left".

Well heck....what do ya'll wanna talk about? I kind of like Gorgo's suggestion about protesting signing up for the military as an option for highschool kids.

Are all wars based on lies? I was looking at some travel pictures we took in Arles, France, last year, and reading the inscriptions about how all those men in WW II fought and died ' so that all might live in peace in future generations...' What a crock. People are still dying. Were their lives wasted? No. But WW II did not end all wars or all tyranny. When will we have freedom in the USA? Never.

The plain fact of the matter is that the only thing the left can do is protest. Its hard and it attracts the SA-PW but that's what you gotta do!

I think that the only meaningful activity is to persuade. We don't seem to be doing a very good job at that - myself, I couldn't sell a ten dollar bill for fifty cents.
