Neal Boortz

This is a mostly conservative (although he claims he's libertarian) newstalk radio personality based in Atlanta Ga.

On a recent trip to the south I had the pleasure of listening to him a few times and he's quite good.

Anyone else ever listen to him?

Neal has his moments, but he IS a libertarian and his views get.. what most GOP style conservatives would all extreme. I do like what he has to say much of the time anyway.

Einstein's "Theory of Relativity" is still being challenged to this day, but by consensus Global Warming is a fact... that's REAL science at work, why didn't Albert just go that route?

He does have strong "anti government" rhetoric that would be consistant with a strong libertarian. Especially when it comes to schools.

But he's very entertaining, which is what counts on radio.

I agree with him on that, at least.

You ever seen a pic of Mr. Boortz? His face does NOT match his voice.

Neal was on a FM station here in the Pittsburgh area for about 1 1/2 years. And I listened to him as often as I could. There were not many things I would say that I had disagreed with him on.

Sometimes I agree with him, sometimes I don't. I never heard him on radio but I have seen articles written by him. I'm an Independent Conservative, not a Republican. I rarely agree with anything liberal but I also don't agree with everything Republican. My conservatism is not of the far right variety because I'm not religious, but I'm more conservative in some of my thinking than our President seems to be most of the time. But if libertarianism means less government, I'm all for that.

The trouble with Libertarians is that they tend to suck right wing votes from the Republicans, since Libertarians are usually ultra right wing.

I also believe that when a Libertarian votes for a Libertarian they are simply throwing their vote away, or worse yet, taking the votes that would otherwise go to Repubs. So a vote for a Libertarian is really a vote for a Democrat.

Libertarians should practice "tactical voting" -- where a conservative of another party is in a close race with a liberal, they should support the conservative, critically, while making their presence felt in the political arena via fheir own independent voice -- letters to the editor, call-ins to talk shows, posts in forums, even leaflets. But when both major party candidates are liberals, [or, although this seldom happens, both conservatives], or when the race is a shoo-in for one or the other side, let them stand independently. If too many races are thrown to the liberals because the anti-liberal vote is split between Libertarians and Republicans, this will discredit the Libertarians. I am not a Libertarian but I suspect they may have a great future in American politics, if they act smart.

Neal is a great talker and if his show came on during reasonable times where I live (middle tennessee), I'd listen to it everyday. As it is, since he comes on at 12-3 am here, I almost never hear him. Last week while G. Gordon Liddy was on vaction the Boortz show was aired as a replacement so I did get to hear him.

Boortz is the one of the reasons why I gave libertarianism serious consideration (the work of Mises being the other). Ultimately the philosophy itself is too internally conflicted to stand on it own, but libertarians do often make good contributions to honest debates over the issues.

Doug, I doubt seriously the Libertarian Party will ever amount to much. The core beliefs of the philosophy suffers from the same potholes that make all left-wing ideologies useless. The only reasons the LP might ever have success are the same as what it would take for the Communist Party or the Socialist Party to do the same--as long as Libertarians act in a mostly honest manner, they will never amount to anything more than cheerleaders/temporary volunteers in support of ideas Conservatives/Liberals all ready support.

Never happen. For the Libertarians to become powerful they'd have to win a majority of elections. They don't. As as far as I can see; they won't.

Libertarians somehow believe that by taking Republican votes they are helping their cause. The opposite is obviously true. Libertarians should join the Republican party and work to bend it to the right. Then they'd have a chance of getting some of the things they want done, done.
