For once, something starts in the Boiler Room

I'll save some time and start this thread in The Boiler Room, since undoubtedly it would end up here anyway.

The main starting point of this post comes from the exchange beginning at post #33, on this page: FBI Translator trying to blow whistle on 9/11

The real operative post is this: "Yes, the forum, while increasing more-than-ever in membership, with more moderators, and more topics than ever before is on the decline" (slight sarcasm, I think)

Today, I was chastized apparently for using the term "clowns" to describe some posters that were, in fact, illiterate. In another thread, "And fool" and "What jackass?" seemed to be perfectly acceptable. Perhaps I am mistaken, maybe I wasn't being chastized for insulting those two posters, maybe I was insulting the real clowns of America. Anyway, my question is this - shouldn't posters that want to be considered legitimate be at the very least able to form a lucid opinion on the subject they want to discuss?? I'm not talking about an occasional typo, or people to which English isn't their primary language, I'm talking about people that are just too ignorant or lazy to even run a spell check on their posts. Why would these people ever expect their posts to be considered serious if they can't even take the time or effort to correctly spell the words that are supposed to convey their thoughts? Are we really to take seriously someone that tells us, "the lesson of Churchhill has been lost on this generation, the only thing we have to fear, is fear itself"??? Does the person that said this even understand what's wrong with it?

Sean may be right, the forum may indeed be "increasing more-than-ever in membership, with more moderators, and more topics than ever before", but that doesn't mean it's getting any better. Tonight, I came in looking for Agnus's posts, they were humorous and irreverent and entertaining. They're gone. Evidently they didn't meet the high standards that are required for posting in even the Boiler Room. Luckily though, we can still read that Kim Jong Il should be "bitchslap(ped) a little". Am I wrong here? Is this forum going in the direction that we, the posters, want it to go? Sean may own the site, but we are the ones that actually run it.

Gee, Agnus' posts are gone? I thought they were quite funny. *Sniff*
:(
OK, they were not debate material, but why weren't they moved to General Discussion?

They were reported by several of the members and I made the call. I rarely delete things on my own (unless it's obvious spam, hate, threats, etc). I also should mention that I made the call after talking about the reported posts with a few of the mods...

Decisions here are rarely made in haste. It happens, but we try to avoid it with warning systems, report systems, etc.

Oh and those topics are only soft-deleted. If you guys truly want them back I can easily restore them.

Put 'em back in Miscellaneous, Sean. Agnus is funny, but he needs to follow the Rulez like the rest of us and not misplace humor into serious forums... He's new, so jawbone him, no warning points. My opinion.

Yes, put them back unless he's violated the rules. What rules did he break?

Oh I agree. That's why they were only soft-deleted. People were getting all mad in the reports thinking it was trolling. I agreed, but if people want to talk in them then so be it. Back they are.
