Molly Ivins' Prophetic Jab

Molly Ivins, appearing on NOW tonight, made a particularly astute (in my opinion) observation.

She pointed out the Neo Con tactic (which should seem obvious to most now that it has been articulated) of claiming they are powerless in the Halls of Power because they are being persecuted for being Christians.

It does seem to me that this may even run deeper that she states. I think they just might be masquerading as Christians, just so they can play the discrimination card at will. Literally coming in the name of the Lord, only to gobble up the flock, so to speak.

Does anybody else out there see this pattern in their behavior lately?

Not at all.

I just think its a convenient, catch all, nevermind what we are doing, circle around the point, and not answer the question, tactic that they are all to willing to use at every opportunity.

In other words, I see a pattern developing. Its the new trump card, one step above the race card.

Are you saying that they are?

This was news to me, so I looked this up on the web and found anarticle by David Limbaugh. All it does is say that because Christianity cannot impose it's ideas on others, that means that they are persecuted. That is, of course, ridiculous. Is this what you mean, Dieval?

I think people who are constantly looking for a reason why they are discriminated against would be better served looking for the reason why they suck so badly at life that they need to come up with lame, prepackaged excuses for ther abject failure at existance.

I like those people - they are so excruciatingly fun to antagonise!

Where does this happen? From what I can see, Christmas is just an excuse for theists to ram religion down my throat. It seems that religious music is the only music schools can find in the winter.

I hope you are smart enought to know that that is bullshit. Christmas was started when everyone was christian. Christwas was just to celebrate a part of a societies religious beleif. Now christmas is a capatalistic celebration driven by marketing. Christmas never was and is not for the purpose of "shoving it" down you throught any more than kwanza or haaunakah (sic).

Basically your argument, if one could call it that, is that because Christians do not have complete power over every aspect of society they are being persecuted? Oh the horror.

Nothing more ridiculous than when the powerful claim to be the victims.

Will people quit bitching about discrimination? Grow up and live your bloody life. You don't have to totally controll the government to get your rights, and you sure as hell don't have to tell people how they have to live their lives.

Are you ranting to anyone in particular, or merely those assembled?

I am ranting at those asembled who continue to bemoan how one religious group or another is discriminated against. It happens - people treat other people like crap for no good reason. Unfortunately that's life, and no amount of legislation or politically-correct activism will change that.

Many Christians feel like they are being put upon by those who don't want to hear about christmas. Many atheists think they are going to melt if they hear a prayer. Many christians think the sky will fall if they hear an atheist teacher. Some people like me just practice my religion in peace and neither tell others what to do, or moan that we are being discriminated against. And this is coming from the practicer of a faith that was shafted out of constitutional rights and driven out of their homes in the dead of winter.

I don't think so. The problem isn't hearing prayers. There are enough churches and religious TV shows and religious organizations to choke a pope and I don't care. I don't like to see religious people waste so much money and time and energy, but that's their business. The problem comes when they use the government to promote their nonsense. That's a problem.

You sure have an interesting definition of "shoving religion down your throught". I am posting on a forum that you read voluntarily. And even then, I am just expressing an opinion - not telling you what to do.

I think you are a little but paranoid with an enormous chip on your shoulder.

Sorry, what I meant to say is that you seem to be both agreeing and disagreeing. Not sure which, and not sure what you thought I meant and not sure why you think that's a sign of a chip on a shoulder.
