Smoking

I hate smoking, I only smoke when I'm drinking. I hate it at any other time, but when your having a pint, its nice to have a smoke.

Today when I was out, I had three, and I have decided that I now hate it. My fingers reek and my chest feals very constricted and everything feals claoustrophobic.

For a five minute high of relaxation, I feal like bad for about six hours.
I write this now, because I have been drinking and smoking, and I feel bad because of it. Advise for younger members, its not worth it. I'm not talking about addiction, or anthing like that. Just smoking in general.

Society may be formed so as to exist without crime, without poverty, […] no obstacle whatsoever intervenes at this moment except ignorance to prevent such a state of society.

Einstein's "Theory of Relativity" is still being challenged to this day, but by consensus Global Warming is a fact... that's REAL science at work, why didn't Albert just go that route?

I wonder why they call them "butts?"

I don't smoke cigarettes, but I occaisionally have cigars and a coffee, especially when I have to read through the journals. It's relaxing, I end up doing more work because I don't get bored so quick that I end up daydreaming, and it usually means me doing less re-reading as I'm more calm and focused. My mouth however does taste minging, and it usually requires me having a sandwich and some mints to get rid of it.

To the younger members, don't smoke fags or machine rolled cigars, they have over a 1000 added chemicals, none of which are particularly safe. Instead, choose premium cigars and cannabis, the thinking mens poisons.

Er...

Anyway, I'm a smoker. I smoke the 'normal' a pack a day, on average. It's a horrible habit. It's an addiction that is not only harmful, but inconvenient and unpractical. When ever I need to be without smoking (kids' birthday parties and that kind of occations) for some hours, I start to sweat, shake, and become very jumpy. One day I'll try and get a grip, and quit.
To any youngsters reading, don't -- for the love of everything -- pick up smoking! It's not "cool" or "rebellious"... or even fun, it only has downsides, period. Besides, unless you're hooked to it, the taste is simply awful.

Cigarrs, now they are a different thing alltogether.

my parents smoke and one of my brothers smokes - I think it's horrible - yet I did do quit a bit of marijuana at uni (at least that has some sort of effect).

My only vices these days are: running and coffee lol.

If people want to indulge in the inhalation of carcinogens, then so be it. Just keep the f**king things away from me.

Parents, pay attention. The No. 1 pressure for high school students who attend the prom and parties on graduation night is the peer pressure to drink and drive or ride with someone who has been drinking. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more than half of all fatal traffic crashes on typical prom and graduation weekends involve alcohol.

The prom is about dressing up and having fun, but sometimes the celebrations can turn deadly, especially when drinking, driving, and multiple passengers in a car are added to the mix. "Traffic crashes are the No. 1 killer of teens. As we move into the most deadly time of the year for teen drivers, we want to remind parents and teens that prom and graduation season is no time to ignore safe driving habits," said Luis Morais, senior manager of the safety planning for the Chrysler Group.

What does that have to do with anything? I don't know.

That's what your last post left me wondering tinybear. WTF did that have to do with smoking?

TO EVERYONE ELSE, I apologize for interrupting this debate.

Gee, now come to think of it, nothing much. Thanks for pointing that out, Osborn. Sorry for the off-topic distraction folks! But interesting piece of news though, ain't it?

Apparently TB thinks her public announcement on here will reach ignorant parents.

Besides, what has that got to do with the price of cheese on Tuesdays?

You'd be surprised. I'm sure the FTSE took a hit right after that announcement. No, really.

Back to Smoking:-

Never really had a problem with it. I don't like the way my clothes stink after I come back from a pub/club, but it's just one of those things - I have friends that smoke. *shrugs*

Only smoking I do these days is the odd cigar - and that's once in a blue moon!

I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered.

Good good, the more cigar smokers the better. I've gotta say the price of cigars (i'm only considering hand rolled here, not the machine hamlet crap) in this country is ridiculous. £4.75 for a Don Ramos petite corona? It's only Honduran for Gods sake! However, if you look carefully you can find some a bundle of 25 La Finca Cazadores for $17, plus 15 shipping, and customs forgot to charge me tax, all in all a good investment. i'm considering setting up a shop right outside the tobacconists selling them £3 each. making me around £50 a box, and saving the average cigar smoker almost £2 a stogie.

When I smoke, I am a smoker. When I don't I am a non-smoker. I have been both for about half my life each.

At no time, either while I was smoking, or not, did I EVER want to remove the rights of others to smoke.

Smoking ANYTHING, as well as eating ANYTHING, is a personal choice. If it is my property, or the property owner allows it, I smoke. I am courteous to others who are considerate of my rights. Those dicks that constantly make a scene about smokers though, those are the ones I truly ENJOY pissing off. If you don't like smoking, fine. If you want clean lungs, fine. If you want to stop MY smoking, so YOU can have clean lungs, dream on.

I enjoy cigars, but rarely.

I always enjoy a good smoke.

I always enjoy a joint of good green bud, much like you cigar afficianados appreciate a fine quality Cuban cigar.

Respect my rights, I respect you.

Trample my rights, may god help you, you're gonna need it. (if there is one.)

Is this where the saying; "My rights begin and end at the tip of my nose", gets "cloudy"?

I quit smoking 9 1/2 years ago. Best gift I ever gave myself. There have been many times when just one cigarette would have been wonderful. Then I snap out of it when I remember, there is no such thing as one cigarette. A cigarette sets up a need for more. I used to smoke constantly. Couldnt sit in a theater through a complete show without going out to smoke. When I couldnt afford a pack, my disease was so insideous I would smoke butts I found on the ground.
The trick to quitting, for me, was all about procrastination. I just put off smoking the next one for a while longer. I used my 12 step program, and told everybody I quit so I couldnt very well bum smokes from them. I switched to chewing on straws and sucking lemon drops and splitting sunflower seeds, to keep my mouth busy.

I had to stop lying to myself: "I need a cigarette", is a lie from hell. The human body does not NEED cigarettes, no matter how bad it wants one.
I had to consciuosly decide, in my innermost self, that I wanted fresh air more than cigarettes.

I learned that the only time smokers breathe deeply is when they are smoking....so when I felt a craving for cigarettes I would do deep breathing exercises instead. And drink Orange Juice, cigs taste horrible after OJ.
With my cigarette money I bought vitamins. I replaced bad with good.

Last one was on November 2, 1987. Daniel's right, it's what you tell yourself about smoking that's the problem. Your body does not "need" cigarettes at all. Felt like my body was vibrating for about two weeks. I realized that wasn't my body craving cigarettes, it was trying to clean itself out.

Hell I love the things. A smoke is one of the biggest pleasures in my life however I am definitely aware of the damage it is doing especially when you wake up in the middle of the night getting pins and needles caused by crap circulation from smoking 40 cigarettes the night b4. I tend to go six months without then six months with. But anyone who hasnt taken it up DONT it is an insidious drug which I wish I had never started. At least it keeps me off anything harder as I look at how I am with ciggys and think crap I dont want to be addicted to anything worse.

I wouldn't recommend sex, drugs and insanity for everyone, but its always worked for me.
