I say:
You were the one who was just pissed about people "labeling" all smokers, and here you are labeling all "responsible smokers". I wouldn't quit smoking FOREVER. I would quit smoking around the child, but not forever, and that is purely a personal choice that has NOTHING to do with responsibility.

By the way, even after all the rhetoric, smoking is still a right, as long as its legal, and on private property whether for business or dwelling.

We also have a right to blow ourselves up, but if you do it in the subway or crowded market, you may be labeled a terrorist. It is frowned on and smoking also kills those around you. Just not as fast.

Amazingly convenient reading you have there, Fifi. Where I specifically say "some smokers", you insist on reading that as "all smokers" and base your claim that it isn't so on the fact that you don't do it.

As for taxes, I've already gone on record saying that everyone needs to carry their own weight (no pun intended) so that's wrong. Can't say much about what makes you sick. If we outlawed that, we'd have to outlaw religion, that makes me want to puke.

I just wanted to reiterate about the hypocrisy anti-smokers/pro-smoking banners exhibit when claiming it's a health issue. Next time you turn on your AC on a hot day, or start your car when going anywhere, or even why you flush your toilet please remember you're polluting my air more than I ever will with a cigarette. That is all.

More than eight months after it started, the trial of the US Justice Department's civil case against the tobacco industry enters its final lap this week with closing arguments on whether the leading cigarette makers are guilty of fraud and racketeering.

The immense case, which already has cost the two sides hundreds of millions of dollars, has been described as the largest civil suit ever brought under the federal anti-racketeering statute known as RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act).

A federal appeals court in February wiped out what was, for the industry, the most worrisome part of the lawsuit: a government demand that the firms be required to forfeit US$280 billion (HK$2.18 trillion) in allegedly ill-gotten profits.

But the stakes are high. Despite the industry's dismal reputation, it is eager to avoid the stigma of a racketeering verdict - which would be the first such judgment against a major industry.

I take it you haven't read about the air in Los Angeles. Just like smoking two packs a day. No, the thing that gets people riled up is, if they don't smoke, that they don't think anyone should either. It's about controlling the world around you. But it's okay to spew toxins into the air so long as it's being used to go for a Sunday drive (he said sarcastically)...

I've been there, and yes, it's grim. I'm in full agreement about the hypocrisy of many anti-smoking campaigners - but for some - and those who don't live in LA - it is genuinely about ensuring quality of air and extending their lifespan.
