| Navy Veteran Location: Texas Posts: 6,031 | Membership Rules Idea Thread Hey gang, as it stands, right now, anyone that applies to the group with a few known exceptions, is in. But we need to set "rules" for the group, membership standards and what not, and we can ask Sean to Sticky the thread for us. I don't think a big long "list of rules" or any stupidity like that, just what we as a group expect, and how we deal with problems SHOULD they arise in here. It's our forum guys, a basic rule/guideline set now will go a long way towards avoiding problems in the future. My suggestions for this thread, it would look like this: Welcome to "the Conservatives" members only forum! We're here to have fun, sharpen our debate skills and grow the Volconvo conservative poster base. We have a few ground rules and aside that, it's all good. So please take a moment to read these through, and if you have any questions please feel free to ask any of our friendly members. 1. Do not attack other posters(if at all possible, this is a political deabate site and tempers flare it's the nature of the beast but...), namely members of this group in the open forums. If you have a problem with them either on an issue, or personally, bring it in here in a civilized manner or via PM with that member. 2. Always cite sources when debating in the open forums, we need to set the example, and out debate our idealogicial opponents! 3. If you have a SERIOUS problem with a member of this forum, PM Mr.Vicchio, or RCNE and discuss the issue. Should the situation require it, the member will be asked to leave or, a vote will be held requiring 60% of the voting members to remove a member. This is a last resort measure, but we feel the rules should be clear if and when such an occassion should arise. We will strive to avoid ever using this option. 4. HAVE FUN! We're on the side of history guys, conservates are making great strides and we're here in the front lines of the internet war, enjoy it! Granted you may never get the person you are debating to agree with you, or even concede a point, but there are others who will be swayed by your words. They might even let you know you changed thier minds! 5. The GOP is trying to follow a "Big Tent" philosophy, so are we. Not every conservative argees with, or even likes the leadership in Washington and elsewhere, but the basic beliefs that hold us together are what makes this forum. Respect each other, and while we may not all agree on all issues, we have common goals and beliefs, never lose sight of that. 6. All issues of violations of Volconvo rules should be handled by using the "report post" option. Let the Volconvo team deal with those problems we'll deal with the member if they are part our commuinity. --- anyway, that's how I would do it. Thoughts? Einstein's "Theory of Relativity" is still being challenged to this day, but by consensus Global Warming is a fact... that's REAL science at work, why didn't Albert just go that route? But seeing as we are all on the same page so to speak, I don't know how much debate will be going on in this forum...But I personally will be using this forum to 'strengthen' my convictions and basically learn more about what to say, and how to say it without sounding like an uninformed idiot. For example, if I am in another thread, and the debate starts to get heated-I tend to, at times, shrink away from the arguement...thinking I am not knowledgable enough to take a stance. And then I continue to watch the thread, and people say the exact same things I am thinking. And then I realize that I am not the only conservative, and I don't have to fight a group of 20 liberals, all by myself. Basically, I only really started voting for elections during the Gore/Bush election. Because a close friend of mine let me know the importance of voting, and my boss threatened me...and made me register to vote. So although I am a firm backer of our President, and a staunch GOP supporter. I don't feel strong enough in my convictions to go up against a group of angry Liberals. I will be using this 'Conservative' forum to gain more knowledge, and basically have more backing for my beliefs, so I don't have to start every debate with IMO. Not that I am blindly following a group & hoping to belong somewhere. I have all the beliefs and thought processes of a Conservative, without the detailed knowledge of politics, and current events... I always feel like I will be outnumbered, and here I wont feel that way...And then hopefully in the future, when a coworker starts harping on how 'stupid' or 'evil' our President is, I don't have to shrink away and not say anything...Does that all make sense?
