Those involved in the various border patrolling projects don't deserve a kinder label than "gringo", and likely a good deal more offensive ones, if half of what is reported on these deranged fanatics is true.
Check it out, learn the actual facts, 40% of the minutemen project volunteers are minorites.

rmnunez has repeatedly and here, openly admitted to being willing and ready to use racially based slurs against those he dislikes. This is what, if it were a white man talking about blacks he disliked and calling them n******'s just because he is from the south... a racist, bigot. And if he were a moderator people would be calling for his position.

Well this is a call for that. I've got no truck with his opposition to the project, that's HIS RIGHT. But the fact he continually, and openly makes racists slurs agaisnst them... shows he is a bigot.

As a member of this community, I find that reprehensible behavior for someone whose supposed to be a moderator and keep debates civil. How can we trust his judgement in the future?

What if a latino poster and a caucasian poster get into in a future thread, and rmunez sides agaisnst the white guy, isn't his open and admitted use of "gringo" as a racial slur enough to make any call of his suspect?

Volconvo doesn't need a bigot racist as a moderator.

Sean please remove him as a moderator. Anyone who agrees say so, if you disagree, start a rmunez is a good mod thread.

Einstein's "Theory of Relativity" is still being challenged to this day, but by consensus Global Warming is a fact... that's REAL science at work, why didn't Albert just go that route?

While I do agree with you, he is basically harmless. It just brings a whole new element to the bias on this board.

Keeps it interesting, dont ya' think?

rummie is just trying to provoke us. If we get angry at his bigotry, he takes pleasure in our anger. Why honour him in this way?

As for being a moderator, I've yet to see the slightest evidence of moderating activity on his part.
Must be because he's too busy using immoderate epithets. :)

What bias? I don't think Sean has even seen this stuff yet. How can you accuse us of bias before any real judgment of the statements in question have been made?

I could understand it if you had been warned for simply disagreeing with a moderator, if a moderator had abused their powers. But nobody has done that, all that has happened is Rmnunez making statements, in Flame-Fest, a forum with no moderation.

I haven't followed that debate, so I won't go into that -- and I'm sure that wasn't the issue in this thread. :p

Anyway -- I agree with Mr V about the blatant double standards on "racism" we have today.

No, Chris, he uses 'Gringo' all over the place. Even going to the extent of replacing the word 'Americans' in a quote from the BBC website with 'gringoes'. I think it was the 'Mexico on the scene' thread. I have called him on it. Several times.

Really? I have only seen the comments from the reported thread, but i'll take your word for it.

However, this does not contradict the jist of what I said. We are going to have to wait for Sean to make a decision.

I wonder what would happen if a bunch of white guys decided to form a group and call themselves, "La Raza" (The Race). Do you think that would go over well? Hum, wonder how La Raza gets away with it....

Thats a good point Lou, its always celebrating 'my culture' except when the other guys do it.

As far as gringo is concerned, I don't really care, its just a (to me at least) jerking of the chain.
I assume a nationalistic attitude is coming to the surface, such as grouping an entire nation under one label

I'd be more offended if he called me a Yankee. Though I know some Brits that just call us Yanks, that's fine also.

I prefer the Cherokee term - 'The Civilized People" if you want to put a label on me.

It's not that there is a label, but that he A: admits to using it against a group of Americans he feels are worthy of far worse labels.. but feels this racially based one is OK. Errr... thats like me saying Negroes
would be acceptable or some crap like that.

Attempting to piss people off by calling all white Americans Gringoes (or groups he THINKS are all white) isn't adding to debate, it's flame baiting and openly racist.

Thats wrong. Look again I have ZERO PROBLEM with his dislike for anyone, no matter the issue, it's the bias implied and the bigotry he admits too... it's not right. It's not cool, and it shouldn't be tolerated.

This discussion should end-as action has been taken to fix the problem.

Though I find it hard to get too hot under the collar about rummie's linguistic masturbation, Mr.V has a point in that the reverse (spics, niggers, whatever) definitely would not be tolerated here. (Would it?)

Edited for spelling (damn).

Correct..I would not tolerate anything like that-and action is being taken because I see where you guys are coming from. Rmunez is reasonable in general, so I am sure he will understand.

I kinda like Nunez, though we nearly always disagree politically. He is not prone to flaming except for the constant gringo references. In his defense, he is one of the old-timers here from the earliest days of the forum.

Maybe Sean has been able to reform him on his immoderate use of the epithet gringo. I haven't seen him moderate any threads at all...

We should learn from the past. Take that label that they place on you, and wear it as a badge of honor.

I am currently practicing what I preach. They call me White Bread, and I reply "don't you forget that, ever, I AM enriched White Bread. "

Just as the "Yankee's" before me, I take that label, and use it to my own advantage.

That's why I say: It's up to the addressee whether he gets upset by the message.

I have a sneaking sympathy for rummie and his "gringoes". After all, we gringos have had the upper hand for a coupla centuries. I guess we can stand to be badmouthed a bit, my view. And it's true that rummie is a fairly mild-mannered chap if you set aside the aggressive content of his dog-with-bone use of "gringo". Hell, he's just trying to get our goat. Why let him?
