Mr. V., I half agree that it seems if you think EVERYTHING Bush does is wrong, it wouldn't be logical to assume he could do this, BUT when you think about it, kidnapping this guy and keeping him on ice isn't all that hard to do. It's already a cottage industry in Iraq and elsewhere, so why (this is a question for you) is it impossible to believe Bush's people thought there might be some future benefit to having Bin Laden on ice? It's not like anybody's going to MISS the guy.

My feeling is that this is probably mainly CT but from the perspective of a candidate who has already implied (as well as his Veep) a vote for Kerry is a guarantee of more terrorism, it makes perfect sense to pull something like that.

I would have a very hard time believing Bush has ordered bin Laden held untilt he "right time" during the election to "spring his poll numbers back up"

Considering he is ahead now, and Kerry is steam rolling his way to getting the votes of only people like the Prettyredhead here.. Bush doesn't need gimmicks like the DNC/CBS people use to get votes.

i am actually with PRH on this one.

i also read the US military stating recently they were close to nabbing bin laden.

let's wait and see. if they pluck him before now and the elections, we will hear all sorts of apologies from the conservatives about how it was a coincidence.

this is not just conspiracy theory either. military analysts (independent ones) have said there is good evidence the US at least *believes* bin laden may well be in the pakistan/afghan mountains, protected by local tribesmen.

the US/pakistani forces haven't gone in there yet, in fact this operation is the first time the pakistani army has *ever* ventured into this territory.

if there is a major push by the US which pulls bin laden out in the next few weeks, i for one won't be surprised.

i don't believe he's "on ice". nor do we seem to know whether he is dead or alive.
