Time to give it up, theists

I propose that because the theists have held the right, for the last 2008 years, to the calendar, it is time they gave it up.It is time the atheist's got their turn. After all it is only an arbitrary setting , it is not as if the start of our yearly calendar is dependent on the birth of a single man.

I propose instead that the atheist point of origin should begin at the birth of the only super power in existence at this time..
Henceforth the calendar will state what was once called 1776 as now being the year zero . And this is now the year 228 Anno Domini Nostri America.

So which do you choose? God or Country.

Do you know how much it's going to cost us to change the dates on every thing that has one...money, computers, books, electronics...? Besides, we couldn't get Americans to learn the metric system, who wants to try and retrain them to use a new calendar?

I belive that is because the containers we use are still English sizes. If manufacturers changed the container sizes, then it would be so much easier. Four quarts to a gallon is easy to remember. But 3.784 liters is tediously specific. Simply putting metric conversions on everything purposely makes the metric system difficult. The odd numbers purposely makes conversion or mental math impossible. That is why Americans don't like metric.

I think "Cosmic Era" (CE) would be better, starting at the time humans set foot on another world, 1969. That makes today 38 CE, 16 days before the new New Year on July 20th .

Yah, but if you did that, you'd have a bunch of angry old timers smashing liter bottles of milk and stuff.

As to the new date of 1776, while I appreciate the props from a non-american, the birth of jesus, even hypothetically, as a founder of the dominant western religion and a massive influence on the civilisation, as well as a probably causitive factor in Islam's beginning, is still more momentus than the birth of an only (add the 32, carry the 8) 232 yr old country. Now, granted, we don't know what the future has in store.

No, we don't. Calendars are unproven assumptions based on the unsubstantiated premise that time passes in a linear fashion. That sure sounds like design to me.

The Christians claim to know. Maybe that's why they get to use Jesus' birth as the the basis for the Western calendar.

Or they could just drop the letter A from Atheist.

You forgot the 3rd choice.... "both".

It is only a matter of putting them in scientific order...

1. God.

2. My best friend, Old Shep, the houndog.

3. My Wife.

4. My trusty shotgun.

5. My Country.

6. The other woman.

7. The local honky tonk.

8. My red pickup truck.

9. My mean one-eyed cat.

10. My collection of Merle Haggard CDs.

What, you actually fell for that? The Bible says in no uncertain terms that the Earth is flat, so this space flight thing is an obvious hoax. Oh ye of little faith.

What makes you think an anarchist communist would consider the birth of america as a starting point?
If I was to take it from that point then the new millenia should begin in 1814 with the birth of Mikhail Bakunin.
Making this the year 194.

We could really simplify our calendars if we all adopted Last Thursdayism.

Belief in Last Thursdayism necessitates the belief that Schmucky is a petty sort of prankster who derives pleasure from messing with the heads of his creations, much like a troll.
Careful you might get reported to a mod for messing with our heads.

They really did Schmucky wrong by comparing him to a troll. He should be compared to Coyote in American Indian legends.

Chapter and verse, please. Oh, and it must actually say it in no uncertain terms. In other words, not subject to interpretation.

The "beauty" of the Bible is that it is always subject to interpretation. Otherwise, when things get proven false, how would you be able to reinterpret them as merely metaphorical?

Try "four corners of the Earth", originally taken literally, now considered a metaphor.

"Biblical metaphor - A literal Biblical claim that turns out to be demonstrably false."

Or Aramaic or Koine Greek or whatever language God supposedly spoke in when he said "Let there be light".
