| Uncomfortable Mind Posts: 375 | Good sources of information? I was hoping we could share where we get our information, which news channels/shows, websites or other, for any serious topic, be it philosophy, news, world issues, science.. etc? Also if you provide a recommendation, a brief description or your own assessment of that recommendation's strengths and weaknesses would be appreciated. |

Well, I'll start by offering C-SPAN.org. Talk about contemporary. |

![]() Arbiter of Weird Location: New Hampshire Posts: 1,163 | Al Jazeera is bookmarked right next to CNN in my Firefox. The idea is that reality is somewhere between them. If I want general information, honestly, I go straight to Wikipedia. Everybody hates it but the hyperlinked bibliography at the end of every page is just too useful not to use. Its also free, searchable, and you can view old versions of a page. There's also a bunch of specialized websites for weird things I need a lot. OpenSecrets.org is useful for making points about government corruption, and Urbandictionary.com is the shizzle for when your homies use phrases like bloody dragon or ginga. Destroying America one Volconvo post at a time. Religious controversies are always productive of more acrimony and irreconcilable hatreds than those which spring from any other cause. |

![]() Molten Ash Posts: 42 | I used to like Digg a lot, but there's so much bias and stupid stuff that goes on over there that I've lost interest. Does anybody here use Google Directory? It's a pretty neat way to find info sorted into categories. There are usually sections with famous works available online. | Volcanic Erupter Posts: 8,663 | For News: I just click on CNN (TV) and they normally cover things okay, they have a lot of staff, pundants, opinionated people, and they are getting away from just qucikie sound bites and allowing for complete speeches, or more in depth reporting. Then I like to check in with Democracy Now webpage as they cover tons of things no other news source mentions, they are prone show items of interest to the lift wingers and different protest groups. Democracy Now! | Radio and TV News I like be a reporter with my own spin on the current events, but Volconvo staff prevented me from doing that here at the breaking news forum because of new rules about parroting the other bias news sources. For most other topics I use a search engine on my computer and then check out whatever webpages pop up as sources of information. That works pretty well. Never found Bradley's Lisbeanism Party webpage for some reason. Might have misstyped the address? Ha. I used to post at this forum but it is mostly women so I came here to Volconvo to debate. Oprah Winfrey Forum - Topix But they had some interesting forums to check out. |

| Igneous Magma Posts: 290 | CNN is a good source for current events, although the "hard news" is limited and the focus is more on human interest stories. Fox News tends to be more right-wing, but it provides more political news. MSNBC is stand up disguised as news. Chris Matthews was literally drooling while talking about Obama. It was disgusting! Using the internet for sources of reference is difficult and time consuming but provides the most thorough information. Unfortunately, it is up to the individual to examine the information, check the resources, and determine the validity of every article. Simply stated, there's as much good information on the internet as there is propaganda. |
