The Earths Biggest Problems

Here's a question for all of you. If you were the ruler of the world, what two things would you do to solve all of the world's problems?

First, I would outlaw censorship of any kind. This would do many things for the world, such as minimizing the social stigma of sex, encourage freedom of speech, and allow everyone to peacefully express their own opinion.

The second thing I would do would be to work towards ending religious extremism. Without faith-based tension, there would be much less conflict, and encourage science to progress farther in discovering the secrets of the universe, something which has been progressing very sluggishly due to religious extremists.

1. Ban all man made weapons of any kind that removes you to a safe distance from the person you are killing, that means everything from nukes and biological weapons to spears and arrows.
The downside of this is you would get a lot of rock throwers, but you can amour up against that.

2. Set aside a continent that has a wide range of habitats, specifiably for wild life, that no one can go to or use for any purpose.

What would you do with the continent? Would you send endangered species there to fend for themselves?

Weapons themselves do not incite violence. A gun by itself does nothing without a person to pull the trigger, and that person has to have the motivation to the pull the trigger. A world without obvious weapons would mean a lot of people using normal tools such as screw drivers, hammers, chainsaws oooo, hell a chair or pencil. :)

What will that accomplish? Will more sex bring peace on earth? I wonder how many diseases would spawn....

Better get rid of politics while your at it. Politics have caused just as much violence in the modern world, religion has played a back seat. Even the crusades was fueled by politics with religion as an excuse.

Well yeah, they would go a lot better than being poached to death.

If you ready my post again you will note I said 'not ban all man made weapons', only man made ones that keep you at a cowards distance from the man you are trying to kill.
So I don't care what you want to kill someone with, as long as you have the courage to be right where the damage you are causing is, and they can have a decent chance to kill you back in defence as well.

I would mandate that all consumer goods would have a 50 year money back guarantee. That would drive a stake through the heart of the consumer economy which, fundamentally, is what's killing our world.

I suppose since I'm already the ruler of the world I can't exactly be a force for freedom, but I'd institute a program that requires that after high school you undergo a world travel and education program that brings you to each continent to explore a different culture and learn a different language.

I'd like to forward an referendum to sterilize poeple who exhibit authoritarian tendencies on the basis that it's criminal, and pathological, and therefore, a mental illness.

The idea was not to have people have more sex, it was simply to remove the social stigma around it. This would encourage ACTUAL sexual education in schools rather than the "abstinence-only" crap that they have now. This will reduce the number of teen pregnancies and, most likely, the number of abortions.

Another side to my non-censorship idea is that it would add more natural selection to the human race as a whole. With all of the uncensored violence, there are certainly going to be those ignorant enough to attempt to imitate those actions. This will effectivly breed out the stupid of our society.

And with religious extremists gone, we WON'T HAVE any excuses to kill each other. A leader would not be able to rile up any particular nation without the looming expectations of a demanding or jealous god.

So what would come from this? Well, the major population of humans would be intelligent creatures, capible of progressing much farther as a species than we would ever be able to in today's world.

There will always be an excuse. Vietnam for example. Capitalism v. Communism. Better ban politicians.

Thats interesting. I'd like to see men fighting one on one again with a blade in their hand or lance.

Why do you think sexual freedom will create less sex? The horrid people that believe sex should be with one person after you mature causes sexual dissidence?

Its time for your sterilazation. That statement itself was authoritarian.

Hmm, so there would be a one world government. The only thing left to do, would be:

1. I would make all money worthless
2. Step down as the ruler.

It does seem that greed is the source of the majority of the world's problems. I'm not sure in today's society how making money obsolete would work?

That sounds fun.

1. Continue our government

2. Increase educational standards.

You don't have to actually figure that out. The OP's question is hypothetical, and impossible to begin with. Therefore the answer only has to meet the criteria of solving the problems, without actually being possible.

50 years is a bit extreme for most consumer goods, but I agree with the premise. It seems every time I buy something (and not always a big ticket item) the warrenty is only good for a year. They always want to make additional money on the extended warrenty.

My apoligies, I was thinking out loud. I've actually thought a lot about what it would be like to go back to the barter system.

Since I'm not one to tell others how to live their lives unless it effects me personally (or they ask for my advice) I suppose having other people do the same would be a good start?

Great idea - outlaw censorship of any kind and ban religious extremism from have their right to freedom of speech. Anyone notice a slight contradiction in that?
