Obama question - what do you prefer

After being made fun of for his lack of bowling skills Obama in a lite hearted speech suggested tearing up the bowling alley in the White House and installing basket ball court.

Any objections to that?

Yeah: the assumption that he'll have any say whatsoever in the matter.

Basketball? Why not a hockey rink? Oh right, because he's black and black people apparently play basketball. Whatever was I thinking?

Stereotypes ftw.

Seriously, sometimes Obama just tries too hard. Recently it's become much more frequent.

he should take the "not here to play games" route. honestly who cares if he can't bowl? what a farce we are. land of the brave indeed. more like the land of the shallow, misinformed and distracted. land of the talk show.

Dude, maybe he just likes basketball?

Race issues only go as far as we interpret them. The assumption that black people play basketball and must therefore choose it over other sports seems to be entirely your own imput. Obama never even implied it as such.

I think a basketball court would be good. He could invite the leaders of other countries over for some one on one dipolomacy.

And it couldn't possibly have anything to do with the fact that the debate has come up ad nauseum about questioning the quantity of his elusive "blackness" quota? No! Politicians never pander toward voting groups they're trying to find favor with. Never!

Maybe he should go hunting with John Kerry to try and get the NRA vote next.

I don't care that he isn't an accomplished bowler. I care that his spin-masters expect me to be appalled that the press would harp on him over something completly contrived, but then expect me to take to heart every contrived piece of crap the same press pushes about Clinton. They love it when they spew stupid crap about her (and repeat it all ad-nausem) but act completely indignant when the same stuff comes his way.

I concede that race has played a part in the elections. I will also concede that keeping a fine line with what a candidate does not to upset the racial balance is important to them.

But give me an effing break. Does everything come down to black and white now in this election or can we just have some lightheared humor without everyone crying "RACE!"? Seriously, is it possible for some one to just like the game of basketball without making a huge racial thing about it?

Look, if Obama has played basketball before and might be *shocker* good at it, why wouldn't he make a joke that that's what should be put in the White House. It's different than your John Kerry example because John Kerry did not go hunting and was acting out of character for the vote. Obama did nothing out of character there. He just made a joke.

But no, please continue blowing the racial trumpets at every sentence in his speech that has anything to do with human activity or idea because God forbid, it will not be "black enough" or "too black" or "strangely white" or whatever tripe you want to label it. All in the eyes of the beholder.

He does love to play basketball. And in another town he was filmed shooting some hoops, but he did not make a lot of bad shots doing that so the news gave it little coverage.

Next on his trip he sat in a bar and drank a beer with the everyday factory workers. Hmm, hope he is not drinking beer when that phone call comes at 3 in the morning.

"hello, what's up?"

"Hello, this is Hillary, we are having a national emergency, they raised the cost of gasoline and our national economy is going to pot".

"Hey, don't toss that ball in my court baby, go wake up Congress, how did you get my phone number anyway?"

"I used to live there, how else do you think it got it, by the way hows your game?"

"Much better now that I installed my basketball court and got rid of that old bowling alley, drop by sometime and we will shoot a few hoops".

"Okay, next time I'm in the neighborhood I will give you a shout".

"Great, but try to call me at a decent hour next time".

He might be good at basketball. I don't know. I'm merely commenting on the convenience of him bringing it up when other people have questioned his racial allegiance. Something I couldn't give two sh*ts about.

Your comments in your first post are critical of him doing so, not a simple commentary. I've defended the action saying Obama is not playing the race card but rather it is an interpretation.

As far as I'm concerned this post contradicts you first post if you say you were just commenting on his convinience when you were critical of it in the previous post.

No, it is possible to have negative commentary. Given the media lately, and Obama's actions lately, one can reasonably conclude that he is pandering.

None whatsoever... except the implication that he is to be 'our next President'.

Criticizing Obama with NO proof Obama is actually playing to the crowd instead of just stating a JOKE.

So he doesn't know, now he's just found a coincidense. Still doesn't prove that Obama is trying too hard to be black as he initially claimed. So far we've got nothing here.

So finally we have "proof" to criticize Obama for playing to the black crowd.

So why did Obama make a speech saying he didn't believe race was an issue? Why has Obama not chosen to accept the frivilous claims of those trying to help the black people vote for their own man? I think it goes deeper than just "pandering to the crowd".

Chester A. Arthur had an elevator installed in the white house. So he may be able to install a court if it doesn't have one already. have Hey if he needs to shoot a few hoops in order to find zen before making a major decision i want him to have that leisure.

I don't have any objections, but Obama should really ask McCain about it . . .
