| Volcanic Erupter Posts: 8,936 | How to stop smoking the cheap way. If you lack the will power to go cold turkey but are still willing to stop smoking here is a method you can try out. First of all forget about fighting the urge to smoke. Use it to your advantage instead. Light up a cigarette. Inhale it deeply and become aware of the harshness of the smoke as it passes your mouth and throut. Hold it in your lungs for a moment before exhaling. Become aware of the effect it has, you will feel a little dizzy or lightheaded, prehaps nosiated (over look any poor spelling here - please). Never loose conscousness of noticing what you feel. Take another drag and repeat the same procedure of self awarenss. Feeling the harsh burning sensations and the lightheaded feelings each time. Now most of you will snuff it out in the ashtray after or before three drags. Unless you refuse to notice the real sensations and effects. Each time you get the urge, do the same thing and repeat this method using self awareness so that you are totally conscious of the effects involved. ( like when you tried that first cigarette ). After you repeat this method and notice the negative effects you will loose the urge for it. Because the fix is having a reverse effect then what it would have if you were doing it and paying no attention, or overlooking, those effects. In addition to that you should no longer think of a cigarette as your "friend" but stare at it as if it were something distant from your self, as a object that is not directly connected to you personally.
