The penny dropped.

Why do you “put your two cents in” when it is only “a penny for your thoughts”? What happens to the other penny?

I thought when you put your two cents in, you were giving advice.

So
1 thought = 1 penny
1 bit of advice = 2 pennies

What makes a man turn neutral? Lust for gold? Power? Or were you just born with a heart full of neutrality?

Perhaps you have an inflated opinion of the value of your thoughts?

If I ask you for your thoughts, I offer "a penny" for them.

If you volunteer them, you're putting your "two cents in".

A penny is 100th of a UK pound, and one pound is worth $2

A cent is 100th of a dollar, so one penny IS two cents.

How about...

A penny for your opinion, the other penny for the facts.

This thread is surreal.

but I thought it was a nickel for your thoughts (but maybe my sister was just ripping me off).
