You have the kind of bond between each other that civvies only get when in great relationships. Harry will have wanted to go out there more than anyone else. B) If a news reporter found this out, he would report on it, it is very news worthy. So, while I don't doubt that the government would be prepared to do the leaking here, that doesn't mean they did. Oh and he is more special than the other troops in that his capture would be a huge media coup for the Afghan fighters. If they knew his location they would make a great effort to capture him, more than any other soldier in the forces. This puts him and those around him in greater risk. So yes, he is different to the other squaddies. And personally, I have little affection for the monarchy, but my opinion of Harry is much improved by his being there, even if he gets a cushy role. If he makes it to the crown he should know what he is sending the forces to when he signs off on a declaration of war. Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery. Winston Churchill |

| It's my first name! Location: Buffalo, New York, USA Posts: 3,523 | I think he should be left in Afghanistan with his unit. Notice this quote from the article: "As far as I'm concerned I'm out here as a normal JTAC on the ground and not as Prince Harry" he said. He's third in line to the English throne and he chooses to serve in the military in a war zone - I don't see the third in line for the American presidency joining the military and serving in a combat zone! | Paladin Location: Narnia Posts: 4,277 | I think it's rather noble. It's far better than someone who's born with a silver spoon in his/her mouth, who'll send the peasants off to do the dirty work while living it up on their tax money. I think if he was just "playing soldier", he would have bailed by now. War is not for the faint of heart. And I agree that it should remain secret. He'd have half the Middle East after him if they knew about it. If they captured him, they could use him as a bargaining chip, or murder him in the most humiliating and painful way they can think of just to make a propaganda video out of it. Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame. -- Song 8:6 |

Here's a Royal who, quite understandably, yearned to be just one of the boys for once. I understand that. And he had (still has, apparently) his head filled with adolescent shoot-em-up war phantasies that he needed to live out. But otherwise I do indeed see it as a publicity stunt, and all the supposed indignation on the part of the Brass that it's been leaked -- nonsense. The Royal Family has plenty of members to spare. After all, Harry's uncle did some pretty risky stuff in the Falklands War. "I wish I was as cocksure of anything as Tom Macaulay is of everything." -- Viscount Melbourne | |
