Hm, You're right, that is a factor, I hadn't given that much thought. Perhaps one thing we can do to improve the education system is make sure teachers will provide the information without teaching them to blindly believe it. I know some do and some don't. My Bio teacher said before he taught evolution that it can conflict religion and to think what you think is right in your mind, while a friend of mine says her teacher said that evolution is completely wrong. So it is a problem. We should teach people in a way where they know the information and can make their own opinions on it.
If you're in a public school, you're not being taught to have your own opinions, you're being trained to accept the opinions given to you. Some teacher do break from this rule, but they run the risk of being outcasted or even fired.

The system does a good job at making a work force who is in debt so they have no chose but to work, employers really like that kind of emplyee because they won't be walking off the job as much as an employee that has a savings and has more freedom to pick his or her job.

Unfortunately, our school's speech and debate club was cancelled.
I rest my case. Well, for now ...

Thats why its important for parents to teach a supplement to a school curriculum. I already have taught my 3 year old daughter about stars and constellations - other suns... She understands.

F the public schools, They can teach the back bone but I will provide a supplement.

Another counter-measure is to imbue your children with a general love for learning. If they grow up to value knowledge and enjoy the pursuit of it, they (hopefully) will never settle for simply believing everything they're told.

There's no reason you can't try to teach your children social skills as well. I guess to an extent, but you definately don't want them to become anti-social.

While there are definitely people who do not want to become educated for cultural reasons (and it's a damn tragedy), I think the bigger danger is from those of us who are convinced they're intelligent and know what they're talking about when the opposite is in fact true.

I call it "Peggy Hill" Syndrome.

Similarly, another real threat in this area is people who confuse intelligence with ideology / philosophy. It's these people who are tearing our country apart. It is the very source of punditry.

What makes a man turn neutral? Lust for gold? Power? Or were you just born with a heart full of neutrality?

Yet, can't you be found occupying space in one of those ideological camps?

No, considering neither of the dominant parties or ideologies represent my views. You should know better. Furthermore, where have I called someone stupid for believing in conservative or liberal ideals?

Wow, I thought they represented your views enough for you to vote for them, and advocate their election.
