So far I place: -CB -Akira Any others. Please copy my list and add or own or change the order! What do you say to an atheist who sneezes? Yourdeadthatsit! - Dane Cook |

Without "sin" there wouldn't be a concept for "purity" and without a concept of "purity" one wouldn't be able to enter "heaven." |

That world would kick butt. Yeah. Black Blood Brothers--another vampire anime. You will see a pattern. A little bit cuter than some of the others, but still pretty serious. Hellsing--kick butt vampire action that pretty much speaks for itself Howl's Moving Castle (movie)--how to summarize...I'd say just watch it. I don't think you'll be disappointed. On my radar: Saiunkoku season II Geass season II Vampire Knight--a regular high school romance...if you don't count the fact that the night class is full of vampires Devil May Cry--the kick butt game promises to become a kick butt anime I'd recommend most of the other ones that Zhav suggested (one of the few things that we can agree on) except FLCL. I find it extremely annoying. But if you're a hyped up ADHD teenage boy with a sugar high and typical teenage male hormonal urges...you might like it. I'm a laidback twentiesh woman with a disdain for the overuse of phallic imagery, so naturally the series annoys the hell out of me. Ooh...that reminds me of a thread. | Hucking Fuskies Location: Conn Posts: 2,274 | Hmm thanks for the responses. I'm borrowing Ghost in the Shell. I guess nobody likes it? It's the stand alone complex one, first series I guess. I think I'm leaning more to war and technology inspired actions. I don't care as much for the love stories or gender confused ninjas. What do you say to an atheist who sneezes? | Paladin Location: Narnia Posts: 4,277 | Ooh. I have another. Trinity Blood--another great vampire series. In the future, the world is split in civil war between humans and vampires, who are incidentally based out of the Rome Vatican and Byzantium, respectively (God help us). Gadgets that we take for granted become "lost technology": vital weapons in the struggle. And mixed up in the whole mess are the Crusniks: four super vampires that feed on the red-shirt vamps. Awesomeness ensues. Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. | Paladin Location: Narnia Posts: 4,277 | Me too. It's kinda short. The plot is that the main character, who was a hero in an alliance of humans and vampires that defeated a dangerous clan of mutated vampires, is targeted for revenge by the survivors of that clan. He just wants to live quietly with his little brother in the hidden city where vampires and humans coexist. ![]() Igneous Magma Location: Iowa Posts: 748 | Can never go wrong with existential-psychoanalytic variety. Neon Genesis Evangelion The Big O Serial Experiments Lain .hack//SIGN looks nice, has great music, and good characterization, but it is handicapped by an excess of dialogue and a defficiency of action. Mobile Suit Gundam: 8th Mobile Suit Team is probably the finest specimen of that "sub-genre" of mecha since the original series/movies. Fullmetal Alchemist is one of the better anime, but the manga is much better. Too much better. Fullmetal Alchemist as an anime is too much in its shadow to stand out as one of the best. As far as movies goes, the End of Evangelion stands as more of a replacement for the final episodes of Neon Genesis Evangelion, so it won't be put into the consideration -- pretty much everything Hayao Miyazaki makes is brilliant, but Princess Mononoke is especially so. ![]() SUSPENDED (1 Week) Posts: 3,571 | Some anime directors just aren't good storytellers. Ghost in the Shell looks pretty, has a few moments of cool action here and there, but just gets bogged down in monologues and one-sided dialogues. They spend so much time telling and very little time showing. |

| BANNED Location: Los Angeles Posts: 3,203 | i find most anime to be way too child like, even the gross gory stuff is just a middle schoolers wet dream. Akira, however, is a GREAT film. And cowboy Bebop, though the movie is stupid, many of the episodes are great. That aside, you can at best usually only expect good art from an anime because the movies make NO SENSE. "X" being one of them! No sense! |

And I think you're missing the point here. In vampire media such as this, vampires are not necessarily mind-controlled, blood-sucking, 2-dimensional killing machines. They get a more intelligent and thoughtful treatment. They have consciences, and the protagonist vampire subdues his inner nature in order to save others from harm. This is not exclusive to anime. The Anne Rice novels, for instance, have characters such as these. "Underworld" did too. It is a demonstration that a person cannot be all good or all evil. Geez. Does anyone else think it's odd that I'm the open-minded one here? Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave.
