![]() 2. That certainly doesn't cover "most". Bikers like that (we call them squids, or organ donors) are derided by the majority of bikers out there. The antics of a few provide an availability heuristic and make the majority look bad. Speaking of which, it's supposed to be a balmy 40F out today, perfect riding weather! | Sedimentary Rock Location: Corvallis, Oregon Posts: 19 | To jump onto this whole driving bandwagon: I cannot stand it when (on Interstate 5) impatient drivers use the right-hand shoulder to pass other vehicles. Recently, when ascending a snowy pass, I and several other cars were stuck behind a couple of trucks, one attempting to pass the other. However, because of said conditions, I decided to let out a big sigh and be patient. Out of nowhere, a late-model VW Passat comes up behind me (we are in the left lane) and, seeing the road block, switches to the right lane and sees if he can gain there. No luck. Then the driver proceeds to use the right shoulder to pass the semis that are slowing up traffic. All I see is snow spraying everywhere because the shoulder has a good amount of snow on it. ![]() |

| Sedimentary Rock Location: Corvallis, Oregon Posts: 19 | Good point. And illegal. However, this incident was NOT the first I've seen. Another peeve is when I am driving and pedestrians take their sweet time to mosey through the crosswalk (particularly at stores or on campus.) Then, I was the pedestrian yesterday, and another girl and I were trying to cross this busy three-lane, one-way street on the left side of an intersection. There is no light and no one usually stops for pedestrians, because even if one person does (and did in this case) the people in the other two lanes don't! Finally we saw our break when we thought this truck to our left was crossing straight through the intersection. However, the truck was actually turning left into the farthest lane over (illegal, at least in Oregon), and almost hit us because we were rushing to cross the street and were in that third lane by then. The reason this happened was that the elderly folks driving the huge Dodge Ram were not utilizing their left turn signal. This, mind you, is NOT the first time I have almost been hit by someone elderly-looking in the college town in which I reside. |

![]() Hot Lava Location: Iowa Posts: 1,103 | To Tycoon: Not liking anime?! Uncultured barbarianism! Just kidding. Good art is very much a subjective taste, although my experience tells me you are missing out on a great taste. Another thing which annoys me is when people give me a project they want accomplished right away, from the moment they hand it off to me. I usually like 2-3 days warning in advance (at the least), so I can set my affairs in order. Quote:

| Paladin Location: Narnia Posts: 4,277 | Tyke, what's my #6? People who say things like that are almost always uninformed on the topic. You see, Japan, although it produces some live-action movies and tv shows, simply lacks the Americanesque live-action juggernaut Hollywood/New York equivalents. So most of the stuff that would have been made into live action over here (and probably done poorly) becomes awesome anime in Japan. Much of anime has very sophisticated and intelligent themes. In fact, I would put the writing and design up against practically any American. It definitely isn't kids' stuff. And since it's animation, it isn't subject to a lot of the political crap and trend pandering that much of American cinema is. It's far more creative. ![]() Queer Location: California Posts: 2,605 | All I know is that anime fans base their entire lives around their crummy soft-core porn. Besides, anime is just a bunch of guys with big swords and a bunch of mopey girls that all look the same. You're basing your life around a bunch of cartoons fantasies. Sure I watch movies but I don't obsess over them and quote them like you do your anime. Seriously, you need to grow up. And if you didn't see it on the other thread, here's Maryjane's youtube link. ![]() Slightly Dangerous Location: Greencastle, PA Posts: 1,334 | Oh oh! I finally got one for real! Movies that are converted to fit my TV. They annoy the living hell out of me. Before DVDs and wide screen TVs were the norm, and before the internet, do you have any idea how hard it was to find a widescreen VHS tape? And it's not just the fact that some things have to be cut off, sometimes instead of cutting the screen the shot is panned from one edge of the screen to the other, and it always looks completely out of place and different than the original camera work. Grrr! This comes up because I got my wife a movie for Fake Love Day...I mean Valentine's Day...and it was fullscreen! I had to take it back today and exchange it. For example, animated characters don't all look the same because, first of all, there are many different animating styles and they are all in use as we speak (proportions, lining, textures, etc all differ from style to style). It is not physically (that is logically) possible for them to all look the same at this point in time. Even if there was only one drawing style in use, it would still be unlikely, because characters which look the same wouldn't sell, and the business wouldn't be a lucrative as it is. Contrary to your assessment, many people (including academics) find that many anime series have strong plots, effective characterization, and thought-provoking themes. However, a person who has made up their mind not to consider these as possibilities will have no chance of seeing this. ![]() Son of X51 Location: San Diego Posts: 3,889 | That isn't as annoying as cutting out the good parts with BLEEP!! or deleted scenes. I was going to watch Bad Santa on TV today, but censorship sucks the funny out of the movie. I watched 20 minutes and I couldn't take it anymore. It was more like Slightly Unpleasant Santa, and that just isn't funny. On a wider issue, I guess what I'm really annoyed with, is the issue of censorship and bans. I guess I'd have to cite specific example to be clear, but that's off topic for this thread. Most of the time it's all a bunch of to-do over nothing. Death to Videodrome! Long live The New flesh! |

| Paladin Location: Narnia Posts: 4,277 | 104. Crappy "acoustic" versions of otherwise awesome songs. I mean, c'mon. Did you think that the world wasn't ready for such awesomeness undiluted in the original song, so you decided to overshadow it with a crappy version? Were you just not creative enough to write a new song to have enough tracks on the CD to justify its overblown price? Why, oh why?
