Yeah, well, it's the result of peer pressure. You'll note I don't do much with it. I also don't maintain my LinkedIn page much. I've got too many blogs and websites to keep up. With only three or four good friends, my need to "connect" via MySpace is nonexistent.

You can't murder someone a little bit Isherwood. You have a myspace page. Poser. :)

The community on Myspace is largely representative of the community at large. Draw your own conclusions. :)

I don't do these social networking sites like Myspace and Stickam, but aren't they like online popularity contests? My friends teenage boy visits them and thats what it looked like to me. He has an account on Stickam, which is a webcam live chat service. They even seem to have social groups just like high school. Geeks and "cool" people. The "cool" kids say things in their profile like "If you're fat or ugly DON'T COME IN MY ROOM". Than they sit there all day in the dark (on-cam:confused:) and eat Doritos and curse each other out, all while trying to accrue the largest "Friends list" that they can to show their status.

It seems like a twisted option to going outside and/or having real friends.

I say, it doesn't matter if the friends aren't in the same neighborhood or not. I consider all you on this forum "friends" and if I don't want to be bothered with your banal conversations, then I don't log in.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I am not here to make friends. I am not here to make enemies. I am here for debate and discussion. To maybe learn some things. And to spread my slanted viral opinion across vast oceans.

Why on Earth people wish to get friendly with strangers on the internet, I have no idea.

Am I a jerk?

I haven't even touched my MySpace site in forever. Too much garbage to play around with to make it look like I want.... that and too many unknown fools try and add me from the oddest places in the world, who I have no connection to.

The only thing I play around on now, which is also quite rare, is Facebook.

There's that black and white attitude I see in these forums once in a while..... whoever said he doesn't do the other option?

And Ruksak, If you're a Jerk, then I'm an asshole..... wait... can we assaign our own personal attacks at ourselves?

Lets not forget, I am participating in this twisted and deviant behavior. If I told my grandmother I was talking to someone named Praxius, she would ask me if you were greek. Then, she would say something like "A greek family used to live next door, and they're ill-mannered. They used to hang their undergarments on the laundry line for the whole neighborhood to see"... something like that.

When I was young, we hung out at the mall. But here is a story, about a mall imposing a curfew on kids haning out there. You need identification to be in the mall after 2:30pm. I'm not trying to get off topic about malls and security. My point is, online identity comes without a stigma.

Myself, I also don't gather friends on facebook. But communication is totally different for kids today. They debate in forums, create myspace pages, and post video replies to YouTube videos.

The internet is a form of amusement for me, entertainment. Real life friends are for social interaction. The line is fast becoming blurred. Predatory pedophiles and con-artist enjoy the anonymity of the internet, as well they enjoy the fruitful opportunity to prey on those whom do not have real life social interaction.

We used to hang out at the mall all day. But here is a story, about a mall imposing a curfew on kids haning out there. I'm not trying to get off topic, about malls and security. My point is, many kids feel like they don't fit in where they are. The only place to find people like them, is online.
I cannot think of anything my generation engaged in that even remotely compares to todays social networking websites. I see it as perpetuating a teenagers propensity for being fake to an extreme. Alter egos are a snap. With the click of a mouse, a few borrowed pictures, a story of pure fabrication, kids can be whatever they want to be. Not a real G-thug hardass gangsta? No worry! Click click BAM.......now your a G. We wore stone wash pants when I was a teen. Spiked hair and parachute pants were the adornments of my time. Now we see a whole new set. Bling bling...."check my grills yo". I see kids in public wearing so much athletic gear, they look like they're trick-or-treating as Peyton Manning about to take a snap from scrimmage.

The internet gives them a hand-up in the never ending pursuit of false identity. So much so that they inevitably begin to believe they are what they are not.

I didn't live anywhere near a mall as a teen. I hung out with friends, not with my Dell. Yes, we played video games to a great extent. BUT, at least we were together while doing so. We hung out together and played. Now there is no need for this. Why get up off your beanbag? Just log-in and your hanging out, virtually. Not literally. Big difference. This all sets a precedence for an acute disconnect with whats real.

Why not?

Is your definition of "friend" so limited that you have to be able to touch, taste, or smell someone to know that they are your friend?

Or are you just superficial, and don't know if someone is your friend until you see if they are good looking?

You may qualify as my friend if I know you. You cannot know someone on the internet. No more than you can taste virtual p*ssy or f*ck a pornstar by pressing play. I know my friends. I do not know any of you motherf***ers.
